GCA symptoms coming back. Need advice.

I've been on 60 mg of prednisone for 10 days for pmr/gca. 90% of pmr pain is gone. Only about 70% of gca symptoms went away, and not all all of the time. Tonight I seem to be having 80% of symptoms back. Moderate to bad. So I don't have to go to emergency again tonight, does anyone think it would be safe to up my pred dose tonight at least til I call gp in morning?

Hi. Not sure whose around tonight. Im sorry i dont know enough about gca. I do know some have to have higher pred but without medical input i wouldnt be in a position to say. I would call an ambulance if it feels bad, perhaps you need a big dose via IV. Dont just stay tbere not getting help so early in your diagnosis.

No one can give you advice this way when you are at such a high dose. I agree with Poopadoop. If you are in fear of GCA worsening you need to see medical professionals asap.

Hello, what a worry. I hope you’ve been to emergency by now. Nobody here can tell you to put off seeking medical advice in the face of your symptoms if it is available and besides, it is possible you need IV steroids at the moment. Good luck!

Thank you. I'm on 70 mg of prednisone right now and having an arterial biopsy this coming Monday. Finally getting somewhere!

I do so hope you have taken the advice.................with GCA you take no chances and if I had been around I would have told you...............off to A&E.............you never wait.............your sight is precious and if it goes, either totally or partially that is it.

GCA is a medical emergency and no A&E will dismiss you.

I'm waiting for a call from my doctor. I did go ahead and take 10mg prednisone yesterday about halfway between doses and then timed myself to see if it helped with about 50% of pain. And 7 hours after my regular 60 mg dose, I'm not having any noticeable symptoms. My OH is home today, so he knows we leave directly for emergency if symptoms come back. Thank you for your concern 🙂

All the best - but if it gets worse - no hanging around. xxxx

I promise! Thank you for caring. In these times when doctors are spread to thin or wrapped up in their arrogance, or whatever....it's nice we all have each other to lean on. 🙂

At least you increased tbe dose and it helped. I hope it all goes more smoothly now. If it happens again please go to er as they can put it up as needed. 🌻
