I am currently on 1mg prednisolone (diagnosed with PMR 6 years ago). However I am due to have a hip replacement in the next few weeks. Can anyone advise me please as to the dose I should take prior and during the procedure. Thank you.
Kind regards
Terry

That is something to discuss with your surgeon and, above all, the anaesthetist.
A friend with PMR was told by the pharmacist and everyone else before her hip replacement at the age of about 80 that she should stick at the dose she was at until she was fully recovered. It was also only about 1mg - but they were of the opinion that it was still doing something and the boat should not be rocked!!
Good luck to both of you. I had my hip done last year and knee 6 weeks ago. I have had a little flare this time, but it was easily sorted. The body is going through quite a trauma with these operations, so it is to be expected that the pred. might not be enough to cope with it! The anaesthetist should prescribe a steroid infusion during and after the op.
