Hepatitis B and vasculitis.

Has anyone had an acute form of hepatitis b or told by your rheumatologist that you have had hepatitis b in the past? I don’t recall ever having it. Being the inquisitive person that I am, I was researching and see that this disease can be a trigger for vasculitis . Any input on this would be wonderful.

Hi,

Have you ever had the hepatitis B vaccine? If so you will show a titer in your blood.

I worked in a hospital so this vaccine was given to employees.

No, but I get monthly infusions of gamma globulin.

Oh , ok, maybe your getting the gamma globulin because you have tested positive for hepatitis. I know there are different research articles about various viruses causing GCA. Could be a trigger I guess.

No, on gamma goblin for years because I have CVID which is chronic variable immune deficiency. It’s a thick clear blood product full of other people’s antibodies. I don’t make enough disease killing antibodies.

I read that hepatitis can cause vasculitis. However, I only tested positive for the antibodies that are left behind from either a vaccine or actually having it. I never git the vaccine . I never had hepatitis. Just the antibodies.

My goodness, you really have your plate full. That gives you so much to contend with! No wonder you are curious about the hepatitis B/GCA connection. I hope someone responds who knows more about Hep B. I did have the vaccines so who knows, it could be a connection.

All the best to you on this journey!

Hello, for what it’s worth, I had to have my booster Hep B vaccine every 3years (after primary course of 3) as a nurse. After about the first booster I had 6 months of chronic fatigue. Then it happened again the with the next one so they said to never touch the vaccine again. Also, the blood test for vaccine acquired antibodies was totally different to searching for active or past HepB. People can be carriers. So it was HepB and not A then? Could it have crept in with the immunoglobulin if the batch is not well screened?
