My consultant at Royal Free told me they have done some research into the type of person with this and it seems to be light skinned people who sunbathe a lot especially having sun on head. This unfortunately applies to me as I've been an avid sunbathers all my life. Just a thought to see if this applies to anyone else. I will certainly be very careful and Wear a hat now especially anroad.
GCA: My consultant at Royal Free told me they have... - PMRGCAuk
GCA
Most definitely I am in that category...😩
Doesn’t apply to me - I’ve always avoided the sun.
Well another theory, have a look and take part in this International Survey takes 10 minutes to fill in and you can also look at the current summary.

PS: It is really all down to those Vikings................
Given most people I have known with GCA were brunettes ... Though the Scandinavian genes might well show a bias towards blondes and it is more common in people with them.
Blue eyed, light to medium skin tone, brunette, like the sun, but not a great sun-bather, so not exactly in the profile...but definitely a Viking in there somewhere!
Me too a real sun worshiper in my younger days
I am light skinned and seldom wore a hat. I did not sunbath much. I did get sunburned a lot.
Fair skin, blue eyes pale brown hair, burn easily. Outdoor lifestyle, keen gardener etc, always tried to wear hat but still got burned quite often.
Please don't get paranoid about this other types get it too. He just said it seems a pattern at Royal Free.I think the damage is done already as I have not sunbathe by face for 20 years. But my brother in law also had GCA and spent his working life in hot countries a giving advice on agriculture. Just were a hat over forehead and sides of head.I've just started tapering down to 30mg so hope I'll loose some side effects soon thrush fat Face etc.! Although I've list 4k on my body weird!
I lost weight before and during the start of GCA, 2 dress sizes! After 4 years I think it is going away, and I have started to gain a little weight. Weight loss is one of the symptoms of GCA listed in some of the literature.
I have stuck to the lowcarb diet but I think I may now have to try a bit harder.
I love Scandinavian design so there are advantages to a viking heritage. I see no point in worrying about heridity, there's nothing I can do about it, but I think a lot of people with autoimmune diseases are looking for some explanation, "why me" occurs in the small hours quite often.
I tend to avoid the sun to a large degree after getting badly burnt on my back as a teen. Having said that my face sometimes gets it, but if I feel it is getting the first signs of burning, I either keep to the shade as much as possible, or plaster on factor 50
Doesn’t apply to me - I’ve always avoided the sun too.
It applies to me; years going to beaches in summer in New Jersey, and winter in Caribbean; never wore a hat; am very fair skinned. I did use sun block, but it didn't exist when I was young. I also have, and have had many skin cancers. Many removed and quite a few to go. But I don't think I would not have stopped going to beach even if I knew.
