Hi Everyone, I noticed a swelling on my right leg, lower calf today - very tender to touch and skin a little red.
Just finished reducing to 11mg Pred (week 5 Dorset Lady’s Plan). Pred leaflet Side Effects says ‘itchy skin lumps’ can be effect of withdrawal.
Any thoughts / experience / suggestions out there, please? Should I refer to GP?

I’ve not personally experienced it with pred but it would be as well to exclude dvt. See how it is tomorrow, if gone then ok but if it’s worse have it checked out. Don’t worry, it’s probably nothing.
Hopingsail don’t want to scare you, but you could possibly have DVT symptoms. Please go asap to your GP …or the hospital emergency

Please call at least 111 for advice but preferably go to A&E immediately - those are typical symptoms of a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and that must be ruled out before considering any other possibility. And it isn't something to "wait and see" - if it is and a bit of the clot breaks off, it could be a heart attack, stroke or pulmonary embolus on top.
Call 111 at once for advice.
This should be considered as an urgent issue. Possibility that you have developed a deep vein thrombosis. This needs to be checked out ASAP
I have had 2 small lumps painful, however, my GP incised them. They proved to be 2 small cancers.

As we haven’t heard from you on here since yesterday evening, I am hoping all is well - and that you have gone to A&E or called 111 to be checked out. On the face of it, it seems that this might be one of those things not related to PMR, and that needs urgent attention x
Blood tests back and show (what sounded like!) D minors?? are a bit raised . Blood thinners to take home and appt with DVT clinic for ultrasound scan this week. Seems you advice was spot on - THANK you everyone!!
D-dimer - it is the diagnostic test for the presence of a clot. I assume you did go to A&E? I asked my daughter earlier how her day was going with the bad weather - she said people were still coming in

Hi Everyone!I'm still alive! - and apols, I wrote a longer message from the hospital but it seems to have got lost somewhere, hence the rather odd response above.
My day was a bit of a marathon: I tried phoning 111 but no luck getting through so decided to go to church. My inclination was to wait until tomorrow, partly because I was giving a lunch part for 7 today, but also because I had spent Wednesday being examined in Urology re slightly raised prostate count and then had a follow-up MRI on Friday!
However, sitting waiting for the service to start I went to switch my phone off and saw all the messages telling me to go to A&E, so I sneaked out and phoned my friend who came to pick me up at home and whisked me in to the QA in Portsmouth (where I used to work).
Triage No 1 got me into A&E in 5 mins. Triage No 2 got me in 5 mins from A&E into Ambulatory Emergency Care on MAU. There was a short wait before BP and details taken and swelling examined, then a long wait as my case was overtaken by others with more urgent problems (no problem - happy to give way to a young woman with eye covered and bloody face etc etc...).
At 1100 I decided to cancel my lunch party!
12 noon I got an egg and mayo sandwich and a bottle of chilled water - excellent! At 1430 my legs got a thorough going over - the veins are not too pretty I must admit. Blood tests were duly taken. At this point it slipped out that I had worked at QA - which resulted in a lovely mug of tea from the staff rest-room and a quieter place to sit with my book. I was gradually joined by three others and had a fascinating and very open conversation ranging from our ailments to backgrounds etc.
Bloods came back at around 1700 - D-Dimers up a bit so given blood thinners and ultrasound appointment to follow.
SO I may have DVT .... HOW can I thank you all enough for getting me off my butt and to get checked out? What a blessing this Forum is - and the loving people who make it such.
We got fish and chips on the way home which was amazing and my lunch party is now a supper party - tomorrow!
