Privacy tips

Your health experiences have the potential to help others in a similar situation and transform lives.

Because this may involve you sharing sensitive information, we encourage you to stay anonymous:

Don't share your real full name

Don't share your contact details

Don't share any other piece of information that could identify you.

My son is working with an internet security firm and advises never to put your photograph on any forum ...definitely not Facebook.

Where there is a will there is a way.( for scams)

Please be careful with your emails and pictures.

Remember that most people who are suffering pmr are elderly and can be very vulnerable to scammers.

I'm in total agreement. My son is involved in developing commercial websites and gives the same advice.

Seems low profile then scats!! See you in the bunker or trench whatever!!

Don't share any information that could identify you! Phew!!

It could get crowded in that bunker!

I think you find the site advises that anyway, but obviously we do need some information to be able to answer questions

I think too that although many of us would be described as 'elderly' just by being on this site we are proving that we understand how to use the internet and are probably more aware than most of the dangers involved.

Many of us maybe - but by no means all.

Taat's true everyone is vulnerable..

Very true.

When you see what youngsters - and others - put on social media I cringe.

My philosophy is don’t put on here what you wouldn’t say to someone you didn’t know well face to face.

Agreed

Well, yesterday I received in my spam folder an email starting with the statement that they knew that such and such was one of my passwords (yes, it is, the one I use for unimportant stuff) and they knew that I had been looking a porn and ... it sounded like they were about to launch into blackmail but I read no further.... Well, I do not and never have looked at porn and I promptly blocked the sender, but I'm left with the question - which site did they pick up that password from?

markbenjamin57 profile image
markbenjamin57 in reply to HeronNS

Mmm... maybe a 'saved' P/W (on your computer)? I never save them - just keep a list on paper.

I do get laptop to remember for inconsequential sites, which is nearly everything, actually. Keep meaning to get one of those programs which gives you a new password every time you log onto a site. My laptop is password protected.

Oh dear. I’ve looked at porn. It popped up ( double entendres) when i was looking for support stockings!! I think the word STOCKINGS triggered it. Then I looked at it. I confess. It revolted and intrigued me and I was agog. I thought I was not naive. I now know I AM NAIVE. It was ghastly. Xxxx

I never get that sort of thing. Think my virus protection and adblock program help keep out the nasties. It was a phishing attempt via email and I have no time or patience for that kind of rubbish. But I will change passwords on sites as I use them now.

Yes we have upgraded. It was awful I kept thinking what if my grandsons had been there 😡😱😱😱. Xxx

😂. That made me laugh.

Considering that you are one of the few men, amongst so many geriatric young females who post here, then I'm sure you may be one of the first to be targeted.

Be careful. 😉

Could not agree more. I've had a number of nuisance phone calls before Christmas inspite of taking the necessary steps to try and stop them. Anyone I don't know I put the phone down immediately.

Received the same email as Heron , cleared any passwords from iPad and changed the one site that used the password . It was a trivial travel site I’ve not looked at for a year or more . Using the note book now for passwords , will have to physically hide that when on holiday . Glad I read about this or I would have been fretting .

I chose a photo that’s underexposed (backlit) and doesn’t look much like how I normally look, but does portray my “essence”. Don’t think a scammer could make much use of it.
