Shingles through December

Happy New year to every one. Well my remission that l was so thrilled about has collapsed. Look what happened to me at beginning of December. Right soded shingles. Has kicked off pmr like beginning. Rheumatologist on Friday. Now they want to keep me off steroids due to cataract and shingles. So watch this space....

Poor you, you must be gutted! Where are you in relation to an operation for Cataracts? I almost welcome it, I have heard such great reports. As for Shingles and Pred - devil and the deep blue sea. I hope someone can help. No Pred and back to square one with PMR seems very harsh.

Had shingles myself just before developing GCA! I don't understand why no steroid treatment for yourself for the PMR!.. Others more knowledgeable will be along. ATB

I had cataract surgery a year ago and shingles a few months ago all still on pred. Currently at 8. I quickly got antivirals for shingles so that helped. They were pretty mild and Dr thought pred may have helped.

Don't see the logic of that - shingles is sometimes treated with pred to relieve the pain and once you have a cataract, stopping pred won't reverse it and they are so easily dealt with with surgery. And leaving PMR untreated increases the risk of it progressing to GCA - 7 times as high.

GP. Refused to believe it was shingles. Said the prednisone had lowered my immune system too much. Another doctor diagnosed instantly. I'm so low and confused. I'm going to take 5 mgs at least. Thanks so much for this xx
