Love it, I had the same problem last night.

Sorry PD not what you wanted to find on your post. Good to hear from you again hope you're doing OK.

What do you care ! Eh! Another one of the loveable femail mafia on here scats. Endless complaint & mocking about the male half it seems!

Can you take it back though!!

Only joking of course!!!

Hey you I was the one pointing out it was getting a bit sexist the other day. Don't like that kind of thing. You should jump in and try to see if we can take it, just remember you are out numbered!

in reply to scats

Didn't see your comment.

Jump in!!!! You must be joking!! It took me years to see why my old man said nothing! Now I know!!

The threat of being outnumbered!! What is that kid!

in reply to Estellemac

Always an upside!

Her in doors has done that one indoors beautifully Estelle! Primitive me! I can do without the bells & whistles for Christmas! Just trying to keep my toes warm & the rest of me out of trouble!! Some Hope!!

You and me would get on at christmas, hate all the fuss. OK when the kids were little but not now and don't ask me to wear a paper hat!

Bah humbug!

in reply to scats

Peace mate you're a good un.

Praise indeed, thankyou.

I can't wear a paper hat , my head's too flipping small even now , three mouthfuls of turkey and it's drop down over my nose and is hanging like a droopy bag around my neck , suppose I can always use it as a napkin! xx

I also have a black Santa hat that says Bah Humbug on it that I used to wear while doing the wrapping with a scowl on my face.

in reply to Blearyeyed

That image nearly bought a smile to my gritted grimace of festive joy!

Roll on Easter & the hot cross buns! Should be on sale in a couple of weeks!!!

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to

No joke , I can't remember which Supermarket it was , when I was doing my epic Christmas shop in bed , but they did already have hot cross buns on sale and it's not even Christmas!

Should have mentioned it in the post earlier to add to the fun , or , I could have bought them for the Mother in Law or my Angry Aunt just to hear the reaction.

A friend , who knows me very well , did once give me a white chocolate Santa for Easter ( well in date , it wasn't a cast off ) probably the best Easter gift I have ever had , and I don't even like white chocolate!

in reply to Blearyeyed

Very thoughtful friend & ahead of her time!

Excuse me while I prepare some boiling oil in case some carol singers arrive while I'm trying to get some kip!

And it's goodnight from me. Sweet dreams.

We have a porch thingy over the door. I think an oil slick up the drive might work. Loving your ideas for living quietly and not getting interfered with whilst asleep.

in reply to Estellemac

You know I sometimes hear the doorbell in my dreams! Up & running I am! "Who the hell can that be" my pred head goes! I can hear a spider move for an hour!!

Sweet dreams.

All 4 of our supermarkets have them on sale year round!

It must be the tradition that counts! Kipling should have stuck to writing books!

Estellemac profile image
Estellemac in reply to

My family worked for Kipling didn’t get any signed copies though?

in reply to Estellemac

Which one? " Mr Exceedingly" or Rudyard! I found his books tough to enjoy never mind his cakes!

Estellemac profile image
Estellemac in reply to

The Sharston Branch near Wythenshawe, Manchester. No one who worked there could read I don’t think so I reckon it was Rudy. The cakes were exceedingly inedible even at half price for the seconds.

in reply to Estellemac

Brings a whole new food meaning to seconds! An I thought I enjoyed the 1st ones!!

I'm the opposite, could never get a hat to fit my big head, but paper hats are so naff

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to scats

True , but my husband loves them!

So much so that I actually knitted us all ones last year , partly so me and my equally pinheaded daughters ( who have equal deficiencies in the paper hat department) could join him in proudly wearing a Christmas crown all day , without all the annoying rustling while watching the telly.

Xxx

scats profile image
scats in reply to Blearyeyed

Actuaiiy used to call OH pinhead he had the same problem! Knitted ones may even be cool, but the effort involved.....

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to scats

Not too bad , quick really , if you see my post about doing all my shopping from my bed you can tell I am all about trying to make the most impact with the least time and effort involved now I feel like a lame dog ( or should I say reindeer?)

scats profile image
scats in reply to Blearyeyed

I already do most of that. I hate crowds and christmas shops, so mail order it is. I became very disillusioned with the ammount of effort going into one day of the year, and the fact that we were being given stuff we didn't like, want or need. No one seemed to put any thought into what they gave , they just did it because they felt they should.

Trained as ecologist and very aware of waste for many years now so one year we. OH, son and I opted out it was so liberating. We ate the food we liked and missed nothing else.

It helped not being religious but most people we knew weren't either.

It will take a whie to convince my sister in law we don't want anything, she lives to spend, and think that's how she's judged, but most others now accept it.

When I think that when we were young and short of money we would go into debit on credit card to get everyone a present and in return got stuff that went to the charity shop in return, I cringe.

Scrooge is alive and well and living in Sussex!

Having anothet good night's sleep!

in reply to scats

Last few years it's been Chicken Breast, roast spuds & Mushroom soup here! In earlier times I had a curry & wife had pie & soup. Definitely no Christmas pud or mince pies !

Quite right about the TAT,given away, swopped, hidden or taken back! Shocking waste really!

The disappointment & quiet fury.... "Fancy giving me that" etc. Oh Well! Rock On!

scats profile image
scats in reply to

When the children were young we had to bribe them to keep quiet and just say thankyou for inappropriate pressies. Once in the car to go home they said what they thought.

Sorry to up set you but mince pies are made here any month of the year.

in reply to scats

Dear oh dear! That cost you even more then!

No sweet tooth here scats! They set my remaining teeth on edge! It's crisps, cashews, prawns & pringles here!

I always wear them. Like last Tuesday, when it was our social club's Xmas lunch. I tell myself I am a Queen for the day.

scats in reply to karools16

I don't object to others just don't ask me to. Enjoy being Queen!

Specially the white ones! It's like a meeting of the Clu Clux Clan!

Also very dangerous when poking an open fire!

You could be a Parker me thinks?? Our living room has no signs of life green or human even with us in it. No Christmas decks either no Grinchy just tight. We have no mates you see.

in reply to Estellemac

No. Me' Lady! But certainly done my whack of driving! It's safer!!!

One of the rare horizontal household spaces available to myself I indeed have a plant! (Clivia) Cacti & succulents all over the place!

Hello Mr Pepperdoggie, I for one have missed you. I hope you are not doing too badly. Midnight mass at St Laurence Church?

in reply to SheffieldJane

Dunno where my night time reply went Jane! Must have been half asleep!

Used to go to St Peters Church Harborne in my youth for the Midnight carol service! Up in the balcony we would go! It was pretty steep up there after a few earlier sherbets!!

Can't sing for toffee but the atmosphere was great!

Having the heart failure diagnosis added to my medical portfolio has shifted my axis somewhat! Still at least it gives me something else to focus on eh!

Hope you're not doing too badly yourself.

Yea but a great site and a great insight into how women think. Should have joined years ago before PMR. May have reduced pain as much as pred!

in reply to Harbel

Wouldn't disagree with that Harbel. This forum is indeed a broad church of expert experience, knowledge & opinion. Often delivered with a smattering of humour! ATB

I've missed your pictures lately. Is that a Norfolk island pine? Pretty fine needles. Don't let the ladies scare you away.

in reply to bunnymom

It's a Cryptomeria japonica "Sekkan Sugi" (Japanese Red Cedar). Curly foliage goes a red/brown colour. Beginning to get going now. Think I'll keep it pot bound! Already have cedar that's going skywards!

Me! Scared away!!! Hey! I've been run over by a train of "Nordic Pole Walkers"! And insulted by Experts! (such as schoolteachers & medics etc!) Happy Gardening bunnymom.

It's winter here with no greenhouse for for me so it's window sill house plants for now. Won't think of the garden till February or so. Can't plant till April or March if it's not too wet.

bunnymom profile image
bunnymom

We did think of a greenhouse but honestly I can't take care of one more thing. Maybe in a few years?

in reply to bunnymom

Certainly they are useful for seeds & starting plants off, but anything vulnerable needs frost protection & heating here. My wife has a large collection of cacti & succulents in the main greenhouse & we bubblewrap & heat by electric blow heater when required. The other greenhouse is is unheated but useful for overwintering semi tender plants. It's always a relaxing joy just to pither about in the greenhouse.
