Has anyone else noticed an increase in urinary incontinence while taking prednisone for PMR?

Certainly have! Mine is worst at night, especially when I have to get up around 2a.m. I've reduced to 6.5 recently and it seems to be slightly improving.

Fell over this recently - short video presentation on just this problem, urinary incontinence. Runs through various protocols that one could try, from the Kegal exercises, various dietary tips - no caffeine, cut down / out alcohol ! - to surgery. Lightly skims the surgery, does not address poor surgical outcomes, which is bad form, as there can be many rather nasty outcomes from the surgery (recent alert / protest marches in London in connection with this.) Otherwise of reasonable interest.

There is a comments section, some quite revealing information.

I trust there is nothing supporting mesh??????

There is an incontinence thread over on Lupus at present. Did you know that there are TENS devices that are said to help?

Weeelllll - Not shown, but, illustrated in the video, looped around the urethra, then anchored back to hold it in place, is a piece of tissue belonging to the person. Can just *vaguely see in the view on the above glimpse of the video presentation. None of the surgical interventions are gone in to with actual anatomy ! Not much more than statements and illustrations.

BTW - have you seen the set of articles in the Guardian online today about devices and approvals and messes...?

Yes. I have one. It takes regular disciplined use and I got lazy. It was just one more thing. If I ever feel better I will go back to it

I watched this American superficial overview as I suffer with leakage just as I reach the bathroom. I was interested to see reference to acupuncture. I have an electro acupuncture kit. I looked up in my huge instruction book and yes there it is......for incontinence. There are half a dozen trigger points to treat 3 times a day......so it’s going to take some dedication. ( the warning with this electro treatment is it can get worse, before it gets better).

I’ll report back in a couple of weeks on if I feel any benefit.

Cheers Valerie

Yes. Right from the start. I was told it was bladder myopathy.🥂

Not just with pred - PMR can also cause bladder problems. Mine were worse before pred. If you are on calcium supplements they can also cause bladder irritation and leaks.

We used to joke on the forums we should have taken out shares in Tena...

Yes. Got it. Now reading. What a mess of messes...

Surprised nickel was being used to such an extent, it is a known that many ,any persons are reactive to *highly reactive to nickel ! This includes the stent, malleable due to use of 55% nickel, that can be used in the popliteal artery, being malleable does not crush, break, etc, but...IF reactive to nickel, will cause nasty problems down the road and has to be removed. Ho-Hum.

These days you have to be very aware, be proactive and don't get sucked in = do your homework, extensive homework !

hallo blueisgreen, please keep in mind that we can not do to many repetitive exercises. I went to a physio therapist for the pelvis ( is that how one calls such a person?) and she told me not to be able to help me, the muscles are not up to that. Now when I think of it I do some exercises 3 times and later that day a few more. so now when I am going to walk I prefer the woods. Yes pmr/pred comes with bonuses.

yikes. No woods around here. But pad do the trick.

My Dr told me it was Vaginal Atrophy and put me on Vagifem Pessaries (HRT). I use them twice a week and it helps but doesn't stop it completely.

Yes and I also get up 3 times a night. Had it before. Worse now but I can live with it.

Only really during the wee hours of the morning (midnight to 7am). Helps me wake up consistently and take my pred dose. I also take half a blood pressure pill that contains a diuretic, so not sure if that is contributing to my frequent urination. Also have lost some weight recently, which is in part water weight I assume.

I am under the Continence Clinic Nurse. It’s almost a year now. I’ve have a hysterectomy and a prolapse. At night I get up a minimum of three times. I dream about needing the toilet and there is none or no privacy!!! That wakes me up. I think low carbs and eating more veg doesn’t absorb the fluid. I am on Vesicare tablets now no change. They have to do all sorts of cures till they might finally agree it’s fell off its perch and needs resighting.

Havnt noticed incontinence but Predisilone made me pee more at night. Now take amityptylene to help me sleep, also pain relief and it is used for children with bedwetting also so it seems to stop me waking so often. Its an older drug so I dont think many side effects.
