Since stress seems to be a driver for PMR, does anyone have experience of using meditation to control PMR and if so what type of meditation do you advise. I am a lapsed (Buddist style) meditator but really must get back into it again, however I am looking for an effective meditation style and the best learning method.

Yes Podo, I do meditation half of my life, it is based on Franciscan spirituality. Do it for 20 minutes a day. To explain shortly, it is sitting on a quite place that means something to you, a Photo or a little statue or whatever and if you like a candle. If it suits you connecting with the Nameless or Goddess or nature or .... Breathing in and breathing out, observe what is coming up in your mind and then let that subject go. I cannot say it makes me still inside, sometimes it does and sometimes I observe anxiety or fear or what there actually is. Try to see that as boggles of the mind ( does one say that in English?) What has importance to me is the rest of my life, the not meditative life. If there comes something up I can sometimes say "o this is just an emotion, you can let go" Hope you find something that suits you.
Hi , you may like to have a look at a video on YouTube about meditation. Search for monkey mind meditation by Mingyur Rinpoche. He’s a Tibetan Buddhist and gives a very simple way into meditation. Just listening to him gives me a sense of calm!
I practice Buddhist meditations each day. I use a CD as our group has several CD's for different meditations. I find it really helps to reset the monkey mind every day. Also I practice breathing meditation and metta (loving kindness) meditations too. Hope you find one to help you l.
...I sit by my fireplace, watch the flames and thank God for his guidance. I ask for His help in my daily life. I often have a quiet day....no TV, etc. I have maintained a bed at 9 up at 5 schedule. Rarely go out in evening....Plan each day depending how I feel...mostly 2-3 chores then a rest.....stop when I get tired, nap when needed. Boring, yes but I need to get well.......1 yr since diagnosis......2 mg prednisone for Dec., going to 1 mg Feb 1..........
