I censor my best ones too that’s why I still have a couple of friends left. It’s off your chest, that’s the main thing. 😉

Too true. Actually the weight has gone from my chest to my gut! Must be gravity!

Very beautiful - lifts the spirits x

Thanks Pipalina. Such a good experience for yourself with the consultant, it makes a huge difference. My post, which was scrapped, was a rage at my clumsiness now as my wife (long term ME & always in remission) was having her afternoon nap & I was preparing a salad. Picked up a large piece of cheese to slice, dropped it straight on the metal waste bin! Talk about bang a gong!! Woke her up & pissed myself off too. Does't take much to kick off an irrational rage does it! All's well that ends well. Back to normal barmy now! ATB

OMG pep, I do exactly the same, him indoors napping and you can bet your bottom dollar something clangy happens, I've taken to going for the newspaper etc when he takes his after lunch nap - works well for me - I always try to be considerate but it can't be helped sometimes, I offer him ear plugs....looks at me as if I've got two heads. He can't climb the stairs too often so let him off for the nap, as long as he behaves himself! He's on his second warning.....

One thing out of control is the phone....you can't take them off the hook like the old ones - light bulb moment! .... maybe there's a function to mute it!

in reply to Telian

It's a Law of Nature! The harder you try to be quiet the more bloody noise you make!!! Try putting the phone in a bowl of water! If you mute it you may never put it on again!!

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to

Sure is. Are you kidding re the water, it'll knacker it for sure won't it?

in reply to Telian

That's the idea! Stops those phantom callers & gives them an earole full of water!! Not a serious suggestion though tempting!

Unplug it...

karools16 profile image
karools16 in reply to Telian

I turn mine off at the main switch. If you have an answer phone, you still get messages. I have had it off, and on to listen, for a few days now, as I have a chest infection and don't want to see/hear people!

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to karools16

Sounds a good idea - would have to look into the possibility as we have a Careline attached to our landline but thank you for the suggestion, that’s very thoughtful of you - all contributions welcome as they say. I hope your chest infection gets better soon, take care. X

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Telian

I imagine as long as the Careline box is plugged in it doesn't matter what you do with your phone...

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to PMRpro

I’ve always been led to believe it needs the phone line. It can last a half hour or so without electricity but I will double check. It’s a while ago when the phones went down due to outside works and Careline were on to us immediately as they got a warning signal something was wrong. Again I need to check, thank you.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Telian

Ours was separate - so you could unplug the phone handset and not have someone phone you.

It’s something that hasn’t been needed so can’t say will check it out though.

Hello Pepperdoggie - sorry for the delay in replying but I am still trying to "perk" myself up with the use of additional steroids I am sorry to say...but needs really must as I am feeling pretty lousy!

I really did (unexpectedly) have a very good experience with the consultant and he was so kind to me which was the last thing I expected. As I am sure you know, because of your wife having ME, it's all to often such a bloody battle trying to get anyone show any interest yet alone believe your illness is actually an illness.

Short fuses seem to be the way of the Pred world but at least you were only p....d with yourself on this occasion. I'm so impressed you were making the lunch!

Hope your weekend is going well...all the best - Kathy x

in reply to Pipalina

Done the food stuff for a long time Kathy. I'm the food greedy one here! Yes we've been through all the ME stuff too. Better now for her than 20 years ago when it was really bad. It's never far from the surface though if too much taken on!

You're having a tough time with other problems kicking in now but you couldn't have a better community of people to share your pains & experiences. Hope things pick or "perk" up for yourself. ATB

Gorgeous. Is the orange some sort of acer?

in reply to Marilyn1959

Yes. Marilyn. Looks like a Japanese Maple "Dissectrum" hybrid grown from collected ground seed from an arboretum about 15 years ago.

Lovely 😊

I have had to reduce my gardening to just quarter of an hour a day and yet still get a stiff neck and shoulder even though I'm weeding with the other hand. Do you find this?

in reply to

I do it by chipping away at the various tasks now rather than the over determined way I used to. My shoulders get more sore if I overdo it! Using a big watering can is a no no now. I do more walking with the smaller can which is probably more healthy as well. I'm trying to reduce the number of pots which are a pain in the dry weather. But I'm still tempted to split & pot stuff up,take cuttings, grow seed etc. I so enjoy the moments out there! Thinking more low maintenance all the time now though. It's a big part of my sanity & distraction. Sorry to hear you can only manage 15 mins now. I know how frustrating that must be for you being a keen gardener. ATB

How does “pain in the dry weather” feel?😏😂😂😂

in reply to Constance13

Better than in the cold or wet weather Constance! The pots required frequent watering during our dry Summer & it's a tedious job.

Beautiful they are , mine hasn't turned yet.

I've got seven T. Plus a " Snake Bark" coming along nicely. Never had any success with The Paperbark Maple seeds. Batsford Arboretum is great place to see them & Magnolias in the Spring.

We definitely have the same tastes..... The jury's out on owning a full grown Magnolia, even though they look stunning in the spring - next doors have a huge one that seems to thrive on the pruning. I have a 'miniature', about 5ft tall, which am keeping at that height, don't want the hassle next doors have - plus they need the space to flourish to their natural beauty. After our conversation re maples and the one I've got within my decking, think I'm going to move it this winter - as I'd like to take it with me when we move, I'll pot it initially do you think it will survive? it is established - I just want to see it as it was before I cut it down to it's current size.

in reply to Telian

We have Magnolia Soulangeana about !8' high. Needs a lot of space. The Stellata are the most compact & practical. Lost ours a few years ago. The problem with lifting an established tree or shrub is the damage/loss to the roots. This results in the roots not being able to support the loss of water through the leaves (transpiration) in the Spring. The old rule of thumb was to reduce foliage by 25/30% & with the biggest rootball you can get. It's a big shock to the tree in one go. Bonsai people often prune the roots & the tree gets use to it & grows new ones. Some modern nursery techniques cut & grow in situ till the tree is ready to be lifted. J. Maple leaves scorch in the wind anyway so a sheltered spot out of the wind would be helpful. Hope that helps. Monty.

I was just going to say my friend used to keep her Japanese maple roots permanently restricted so she could lift it and take with her. She did horticulture for a living.

in reply to PMRpro

Yes more or less growing in a container. Works till the roots go round & round run out of space! The roots can be pruned as in Bonsai though.

She pruned - the tree was in a small bed rather than in a pot.
