Temporary raising prednisone dose.

It seems like I’m in a bad relapse from extensive dental work all summer . I took it upon myself to raise my dose this AM. Have a call into doc but they are terrible returning.

I was doen to 4 mgs for the past month but continuing to get more pain. I took 15 mgs this morning because I was suffering. What would be the appropriate dosing schedule to get myself under control?

I had a sed rate test and waiting for results.

Until you know if the 15mg is working it is impossible to say - you can't really tell if this is a full-blown relapse as a result of the stress or a temporary thing due to you having continued a reduction when you were at what you needed while that dental work was going on.

At least - that's the impression I get from you saying "I was doen to 4 mgs for the past month but continuing to get more pain". You had pain, continued to reduce and it got worse?

Not exactly. My prednisone dose has been around the same all the dental work time.

Ok - I suppose what I was saying was that maybe you should have taken a bit more while it was ongoing. It was a pretty stressful process - and you were on a low dose of pred. Most doctors would suggest adding a bit to cover for such events.

That would of been a better choice.

Hello,

I know only you can tell, but are you certain that you have not got jaw/head problems from the dental work? Both my daughter and I had to go to an osteopath because of headaches, temple pain and pain in base of skull after dental work. They said it was a very common occurrence as did my Bowen therapist recently. My daughter’s was worse after having her mouth cranked open under anaesthetic.

Not st all this is hip, back, shoulders. I also get ivig which raises sed rates in me. Will have to get every other month instead of monthly but I do have to be on more prednisone now. The dental work was expensive and stressful but my head symptoms do not exist.

I’m about to do the same thing..go up....been doing good most of the summer, felt good majority of the time... last two days feeling crappy and soreness has returned to upper back, other places..been trying to get under 10mgs...maybe I shouldn’t be in such a hurry...my 1yr Anniversary of being diagnosed with PMR is approaching...I’m considering shooting back up to 15mg to see if that helps or I’m just having a few bad days..maybe my adrenals are trying to kick in..who knows?....Next Dr appointment 1 oct....not that far away..

Why not just try 11mg first?
