Dear Carol-mc

By searching exhaustively I managed to find how to add a photo to a post though I had to start from scratch with a brand new one. It doesn't matter, its getting the piccy (a Janet word) unfortunately she is no more but I talk to her a lot and do miss her terribly.

Please let me know that you received it safely, yes that is a home made white loaf cooling on the rack, a treat for tea.

Best wishes

Colin

I can see it 👍🏼

I keep considering making bread again, always a good way to vent some frustrations. Yours looks good. Get the kettle on, I might pop round for tea 😉

Ditto! Except I’ve just treated grandson (18) to fish & chips down by the seaside! Glorious evening ☀️

Hubby just asked if I wanted fish ‘n’ chips, but I think I’m all fished out this week.

Not sure of the relevance of your picture but as someone who is/was almost addicted to this water I feel I should warn others of the almost catastrophic effect it can have on your kidneys, I have now almost managed to reverse CKD by stopping my 1 / 2 bottles a day

Soraya_PMR profile image
Soraya_PMR in reply to Polymialgia

I never drink things like this as they’re full of artificial sweeteners. But what does it have in it that’s bad for kidneys?

Soraya_PMR profile image
Soraya_PMR in reply to Soraya_PMR

Ingredients

Carbonated Spring Water, Apple Juice from Concentrate (2%), Acid (Citric Acid), Flavourings, Preservatives (Potassium Sorbate, Dimethyl Dicarbonate), Sweetener (Sucralose)

Not sure, but I just know that my kidney function has improved dramatically since I stopped drinking it

Dear All

I cheated with the loaf. I used to make bread many years ago when Janet was with me and getting it to rise before baking was a nightmare. I ended by placing the bread tins under the grill and turning it on very low and that was quite effective. This time I bought a bread maker and one just pours in the water, adds two tablespoons of olive oil and the everything else needed is in one bag of flour (Carr's Flour mixes are available from Lakeland, 10 for £9.49+postage) and the maker does everything and 2.5 hours later out pops a nice tasting loaf which it is very difficult not to eat all at one go. I also bought a bread slicer which cuts a nice medium slice making a nice change from rice cakes. (Yes I'm still on the rice cakes), but just once in a while I want something different with my tuna and sweetcorn spread.

I felt I should own up. I managed to only consume three slices last night and they were delicious. C R P dropped to 6 on 26/06/18 so I'm now on 8.5 mg of Prednisolone from today.

Best wishes to you all

Colin

Yes, I did get the photo thankyou. Just the thought of homemade bread makes my mouth water, h’mm, and the smell! Lovely! That’s great news you are now down to 8.5mg Prednisolone, I’m hoping to taper to 12.5mg next week. Strangely enough, my favourite drink at the moment is just bottled water, maybe it’s the heat, but trying to keep away from sugar.

H’mm, sitting here wondering now whether to get a breadmaker, you may have started something!!

Best Wishes,

Carol

Dear Carol

My first flare came in July 2017 when I got down to 3.5 mg but my C R P was at 17, the second sometime before April 2018 when I was on 6.5 mg and my C R P was at 8. 2018 has been good for me G.C.A wise though I've been suffering from abnormal Liver Function Test results since July 2017 and all the tests from the Liver Clinic have been negative. The Endoscopy was the last one.

Our surgery uses a computerised database where tests and medications are recorded and I've just spotted that abnormal Liver Function Tests can be caused by bone diseases and guess what I've got Osteoporosis so it seems likely that's the cause. I will run it past my G.P. and see what he thinks.

I'm am going to send you some pictures of my bread maker. It only makes small loaves ideal for me as I am alone now. Amazon are a wow for inexpensive bread makers.

Just making suggestions you don't have to buy one if you don't want one. I get my bread normally 3-times a week from a local bakers where I have a standing order, but the bread maker is for emergencies if they are shut on Bank-holidays and it's worked very well so far. I will think about you on Sunday and hope all goes well.

Best wishes

Yes, I never thought of Amazon, must check them out. I’m so sorry to hear you have Osteoporosis, see what the doctor says re the Liver function. Thankyou for your good wishes for tomorrow, I am resigned to it now and will put it down to one of Life’s Experiences, I remember someone telling me that years ago when I had to have a hysterectomy! I am hoping for a good result, that’s the main thing.

Will keep you posted.

Hi. Colin,

The Endoscopy went well on Sunday, we all had to wait over 3 hours as the doctor hadn’t showed up!

By that time we all knew each other! The procedure wasn’t as bad as I had feared and was over very quickly. He said my stomach was normal and my deodendum also normal.

Still thinking about a bread maker!

Best wishes.

Dear Carol

I am so pleased to hear your good news.

I didn't want to put you off with my history of Endoscopies because I'd had two before the June one. The first was without any sedation and was about 30 years ago whilst Heath Road were trying to find out what was causing the perpetual stomach pain and it seemed as though every student doctor in the Gastroenterolgy Department turned up to stick their fingers up my somewhere to see what they could find. They didn't find anything. No 2 was under a general anaesthetic carried out by an Ear Nose & Throat surgeon who was trying to find out what was causing my Reflux and he wanted me quiet and uncomplaining when he put the tube down my throat. He had already pressed his hand on my rib cage and discovered that Patients can indeed fly if they are pressed in a particular spot. All of my ribs are very sensitive because of past rib fractures I leaped of the bed with a loud cry. He apologised profusely and said we definitely need to knock you out Number 3 was fantastic I didn't know a thing because there have been advances and the drug worked so quickly I don't recall anything about the examination.

Bread makers are fantastic. You just put the ingredients in the container, decide which recipe you want to use and turn on the power. Did you get the illustration of mine? I recall that something went wrong when I tried to send it. Perhaps if you look on Amazon to see what costs are involved. Mine's called an "Electricq" cost about £56.00 I think. It was very nice to be able to help you with information about my experiences

Best wishes

It was certainly interesting to read about your past experiences re an Endoscopy, I had the sedation but I was aware of the whole procedure which was virtually painless and lasted less than 10 minutes. I had been very nervous for days before, fear of the unknown! The nursing staff were lovely, very reassuring. My sister-in-law, who lives alone, is to have the same this Sunday, so I have said I will stay with her overnight, so she will be able to have the sedation. No, I didn’t get the photo of the bread maker, but will look at it on Amazon.

I hope all is going well with you!

Dear Carol

As well as can be expected. It's the other ailments that are particularly painful. I've been having Acupuncture in my back to sort out the pain caused by the 2016 spine fracture, there was referred pain in my lumbar region as well and I expect the Osteoporosis is getting in on the act with its twopennyworth. I've got Osteoporosis compliments of the G.C.A. and another batch complements of the Klinefelter's, though they are probably the same batch. The Acupuncture needles are being pushed through my face as well to try to sort the inflammation caused by my recent G C A flare, and the Acupuncturist has now asked me to reduce my Paracetamol from 6 capsules to 4 to see if the inflammation is reducing round the left eye. The right eye has started to hurt in the same way as the left eye so its a case of rub in the Chinese medications and keep my fingers crossed. At least I can go back to the Paracetamol if the pain becomes unbearable.

Sorry I moan so much life has really been the pits for the last two and a half years, what with the pain and the depression caused by losing Janet.

I baked a loaf in my bread maker yesterday using the white flour and the result looks really good. I started baking with wholemeal flour but the denseness in the finished loaf makes cutting with a bread knife hard, so now I use white flour and cut with a small cutting machine, much easier.

I am so pleased the Endoscopy went so well for you and that you had sedation.

Please let me know if you decide to buy a bread maker, because I can recommend a book called "Brilliant Bread Making in your Bread Machine" by Catherine Atkinson £8.99 from Amazon.

Best wishes

Hello Colin,

You have certainly been through the Mill the past few years, I can only hope the Acupuncture helps.

We normally eat wholemeal bread, or seeded loaves but will let you know what happens re the bread maker!

Take Care,

Carol

Although I've stopped eating bread- white homemade bread( however made) is very appealing!! Glad your CRP figure dropped Colin.
