Packing medications for holiday.

Unfortunately I take about 6 different pills a day. In various quantities.

A while ago I bought a pill dispenser with 31 different little boxes. Once a month I open ALL my tablets and load the dispenser up. Great for planning DSNS. Takes a while, but saves time and hassle in the long run.

When I go away anywhere, even for the weekend, I just take the little containers for the appropriate dates. NOTE take an extra supply of 1mg preds, just in case.

WHOOPS , must remember to take today’s 😳

Good plan, me too. Slightly concerned about having them impounded by US customs though. I hope a prescription will suffice. 🙂

Yes, mine were closely examined by security. The question ‘is there a problem, do I look like a drug baron,?’ Did not raise a smile 😠

I always put mine in a Lock n Lock with my Repeat Prescription, l used to have a letter too but that’s well out of date now. I’ve never had an issue, they’re usually more interested in what else I’ve got in my bag!💄

When we docked in Australia there is a specific question re Steroids on the landing card, l checked in with the Customs Guys re the Pred & they said how good of me it was but it wasn’t our kind of Steroids they are interested in!

It’s always best to check before you travel as you can’t take Codeine into Saudi or Dubai & Japan have restrictions on the amount of Medication you can take in with you of specific drugs, ie no more than the actual amount you require for your visit.

Luckily l’ve never experienced any issues.

I am curious too. Loads of feminine loveliness I imagine.

Sparkly glasses not an item I use often, but add swimming goggles, ski goggles and sports sunglasses (depending on season).

Aaagh, forgot the contact lenses. Now, will it be blue or green this year? 🤔😂😂

The liquid rules have spoilt that plan on aeroplanes.

Hi Jane,

Most customs authorities (can find info on line) state that medication should be in original packaging and a copy of prescription carried.

I list everything that think might be queried, including medication, on a piece of paper and hand that to the customs personnel as I get to them.

Never had any problem on my various travels, but therefore have never been to/via US, which does seem to be a bit more difficult that others!

Thanks DL. It is the US bit I am concerned about. I was born in Africa which also causes consternation.

Are you flying to the US to take your Cruise from there? 🚢

No it’s a crossing, not a cruise. We sail from Southampton to New York.

Yes, some places haven’t “got” the world wide community yet!

I have travelled into the US (and a lot of other places) and always carry my pills in original packaging neatly packed into a 1 litre ziplock bag or 2 - the sort you use for liquids when flying. I simply take them out of my handluggage and put them into a tray with the liquids bag. No-one has queried - or even looked at them yet. It is obvious that it is medication packs done like that. I carry the medication for the journey in a 24 hour pillbox in my handbag.

Mind you - it makes things much much easier when you request airport assistance because you are generally not being rushed as much and often get a more "personal" trip so you have time to say "My meds..."

Apart from carrying them in original packaging with prescription I take confirmation from our GP too. It used to be a letter, which they charged for, but now he just runs the patient summary off for us, just ask nearer the time so dates are current. I don't take any risks as not worth it - if you're prepared they won't ask!

The only time I was 'frisked' was following the Enos spillage inside the case, they didn't give a hoot about the carry on case with 3 months supply for OH - plus they showed 'over the top' interested in his CPAP machine, they didn't look at the small computer that ran it but the actual part that held the water! can see them all now standing staring at it - unbelievable! I do carry a hospital letter for that too! That was Oz. The US I wouldn't trust anything - be prepared and it won't happen. :)

I’ve just returned from Austria and took all meds in original packaging with prescription info . That seemed to work !

But what a faff! 😊

I used a small makeup bag ( in hand luggage)for that purpose and just placed it in the tray for checking- wasn’t a problem. I didn’t want to put meds in my hold luggage in case my case went astray( thank you easyJet, it did not! Lol!).

I’m taking both (flying intercontinent US). Bottles w/ dosage & my “daily” ones for 5 days. Can’t mess up my DSNS! They’re too busy waiting for their opportunity to feel me up which happens every time!!! :(

I think I resemble a drug mule as well, I invariably get pulled out of the queue at Sydney Airport. I have no idea what to expect boarding a ship.

Thank you everyone, I hope this benefits all the travellers. It seems no time since we were talking about snow and Christmas - perhaps it is passing quickly.
