Hello,

When you felt very well on 40mg, what did you do? Is it possible you’ve hurt your back doing too much? Pred and PMR make one’s muscles vulnerable to injury, the symptoms of which can be delayed. Could also be a. It of withdrawal which can feel a bit musculoskeletal. 35mg should be more than enough to stop the symptoms of PMR. Others actually with PMR instead of just GCA will reply I’m sure.

At a guess you may well also have back muscle problems due to myofascial pain syndrome - it responds fairly well to higher doses of pred but comes back as you lower the dose and it is all too easy, as Snazzy says, to wrench your back or any other maucles when on pred.

Hi,

If your back pain is helped by pain killers then it’s more likely to be MFS as PMRpro suggests. Physio or Bowen therapy may help.

You have to remember that the Pred only helps the inflammation side of PMR, the underlying illness is still there and you need to adjust your life accordingly.

This may help you understand it a little better
