Has anyone found PMR pain worse after a couple of red wines in the evening? I find some mornings I am sore after a wine and not sure if relevant. Haven’t bothered with any wine for nearly a week (and none last evening) but woke this morning with quite bad pain and took 60 mgs but I am supposed to be on 50 but I was too sore for tha and it took at least a couple of hours to settle. I have been on 50 mgs for 8 days - down from 60 - and back up tp 60 today - very fed up a Jan

Wine and pain
Hello, some brief thoughts.
At that level I dropped by 5mg which helped withdrawal. 10mg made me feel rough with aches and pains, even with no PMR Andy just GCA.
Red wine has always made me feel like that.
Another thought, is that it may be you wee dehydrated before the wine, another thing that makes me feel rubbish after a glass, white or red.
I seem to have lost all toleration for alcohol which is a shame because it could be a nice relaxant. It just seems to make me feel worse all round and rob the little spark of energy I have. Not me at all. Others on here don’t find this. Perhaps we are unlucky?
Yes, me too... I have lost my taste for it really. I was drinking a light Rose (versus a bold, Red which is my usual preference), but the Thrush put an end to all alcohol drinking so... its a mute point now. I do miss sipping on a nice red... : (
Yes, me too. Just before I was diagnosed, I started to develop an intolerance for red wine. Started with really bad headache after just one glass. Then I found I couldn’t bear the taste or smell of it. As things have progressed and as I’ve tapered down on the pred, I find I can have a glass without too much trouble but only if I drink a lot of water too. The pain it caused was mainly in my head. I didn’t really notice muscles getting any worse, which made me worried about GCA. It seems to have sorted itself out now. Beer was fine though. 😁
No - better if anything!
However, if you are on 50mg of pred you shouldn't have any PMR pain. That is way above the dose needed to manage PMR symptoms so I'd suspect it is something else.
A few of us noticed we went off our usual choice of red wines, the heavier variety. I only ever drink very light reds now (the South Tirol local stuff is very light) and much prefer rose if it is warm enough, otherwise white.
Prosecco. Nice discovery. I believe red is more healthy for a variety of reasons - but rarely indulge in the red.
As others have said, more likely the 10mg drop!
I abstained during the first few months, didn’t really fancy it, but as is known I do succumb to a sparkling glass now and then! With no adverse affects.
Have to say, as I got older I found I couldn’t tolerate heavier reds anyway, so maybe it’s a combination!
I have found that wine works almost as well as pred!! Depending on the wine that is. I shared a whole bottle of Puilly Fume last week and I felt fantastic. It was amazingly good wine though.
Thanks - will go without for noe. cT scan tmwr to check for any other conditions and then the diagnosis again next week
Well my tolerance for alcohol is now zilch. I do try it every once in a while - I do miss a glass or two of wine at the weekend. But I feel like absolute hell all over after it if I have it now. I think its starting from a low point and the alcohol really takes a bad toll, even a small amount. And the headache even from a tiny amount of wine is just rottten.
Yes I am better off with none at present
Think it's the Congeners in red wine that gives you a heavy head. White has fewer. Usually find wine energises me & that can lead to too much activity. That's the downside plus my Gamma GT reading!!!
I have cut back on wine too. I find that I sleep better. My disposition may not be as good, but I wake up feeling more rested!!!!!
I used to be a great wine drinker. However I now have 2 small ones topped up with soda water. So far no Ill affects so will continue mind you I am only on 5 mg now I expect that makes a difference at the end of the day.
