INSANITY OF INITIAL TREATMENT FOR PMR

In organizing my files on this long, painful, mysterious, and frightening journey towards diagnosis of PMR and to the present, I came across an initial prescription that was given to me before my official diagnosis. I had all of the classic symptoms of PMR but this autoimmune disorder was never addressed. Here is what my doctor prescribed at the time and you all will see how absurd this was: 20 mg of Prednisone for 4 days then reduce to 10 Mg of Prednisone for 4 days and THEN STOP. There were many other prescriptions between this one, which was January 2015, and the others after my official diagnosis. The first prescription after the official diagnosis was: 15 mg daily for 2 weeks, then 12.5 for 2 weeks, decreasing by 1 mg every 2 weeks. This information was taken from my Patient Portal record verbatim. Thankfully I was correctly diagnosed in November of 2015 and put on reasonable Prednisone dosages and tapering off schedules. Have had 3 flares after tapering down to 1 but now I am on 3 and am going to taper off very, very, very slowly. I am now going into year 5 (symptoms started 11-2013). Hopefully this last tapering off will be my last. If not, thank God I am most of the time symptom free. Did have to have cataract surgery,. However, after all, I will be 80 in October, so probably would have had to have this anyway.

Well you both look wonderful, in spite of the mismanagement of your condition. I despair honestly I do. I sincerely hope you are at last, emerging into the sunlight. It certainly sounds as if you are.
