Thank you ladies for your advice last week on my painful thighs. I upped the pred from 5mg to 10mg five days ago. There has been minimal improvement and I don’t really like being on the double dose now. What do you think I should do please? Go straight back down to 5mg or taper down 1mg at a time daily, or 2.5 mg?
As there has been hardly any improvement, I guess the pain must be something other than PMR (I am wawaiting MRI appointment), although there are two indicators that suggest it is...it is worse in the mornings and gradually improves as the day goes on, and it is bilateral.
My other thought is that 10mg is not enough and, God forbid, I should take 15mg as I did 3.5 years ago.
Any advice you can give me will be gratefully received as I feel in rather a quandary.
Thank you
Zhenya

Looking at your previous post, you say you know your PMR pain, so it is likely that this is still a flare. I have had countless flares, the last one being over Xmas, and I often have had to go back up to 15 mgs to get it under control. In fact, I always flare whenever anything goes wrong and just going up a few mgs. Pred. never does it for me. While you are waiting for the MRI why not try an even higher dose? You can always come down again. I have had additional thigh pain , but this was only on one side and turned out to be OA in my hip,but it was not bilateral.
Thank you Suzy. I am not sure what to do right now as Kate has advised not to go up further. I think I will try reducing to 7.5mg and see if thigh pain gets worse. Fingers crossed it won’t as you know how it is...we spend years reducing our daily dose of pred only to have to increase it.
