Just wondering is sweating not a part of been on steroids ? I seem to have a lot of sweating and just assumed it was part of the tampering with the prednisolone. : ( It would come down my face my hair could be wet from this :(. Is this normal ?

Thanks for any ideas on this

Hi Lucy, sweating is horrible. It has got better since I have reduced below 10mg though. I would tell people I had been swimming.

It isn't normal no - but it is common for a lot of us! It can be due to PMR/GCA and it can be due to pred - and for some they get the double whammy.

Hi Lucy - well, it was “normal” for me. Avoiding caffeinated drinks and spicy foods can help, as can wearing layers of cotton clothing rather than man-made fibre which just traps the perspiration against the skin. A thick towelling head band a la John McEnroe can help to keep it from running down your face/neck, thus keeping you more comfortable. It will improve at the lower steroid doses.

Hi yes I suffer from this, just as you describe, starts from head then goes down my body. Not quite so bad now as down to 5 mg steroids, so hopefully will get better for you , as you reduce. My hair is like the amazon woman!. Ha ha .

Hi Lucy, I recently discovered a company called 'cucumber ' which makes sleepwear which wicks away the sweat. It was started for menopausal women but this 85 year old finds it wonderful. The garments are eye wateringly expensive but they really do work. If washed in the morning it is dry by night. They are in the process of making lounge / leisure wear. And headbands. I wrote to the 2 women who run it to ask for an off cut to wear round my neck , and they have agreed to send me some when they next go to the factory. I suggested the headbands.

The material is a very comfortable jersey, I can honestly say my pyjamas were worth the money.

Oh yes, head sweats I call them. I look like I have just stepped out the shower! I keep a dry washcloth with me to mop up these days :)

Yes, it is with me. I'm down to 5mg, yet still have significant night sweat issues. The day sweats are not nearly as bad.

Hi - I'm currently on 15 mgs Pred reducing from 60 mgs which I took for 15 months due to resistant & recurrent GCA. Sweating was part & parcel of my everyday life until I reached the teens. Some days, I had to change my tshirt TWICE & I went around with a towel round my neck. For some of us, this is part & parcel of how we're affected by the Pred. Others aren't affected by sweats at all.

It'll pass the lower you reach in your dosage - drink plenty of water too.

All the very best

Yes, yes, yes I am afraid, much worse than the menopause in my experience and worsened by stress.
