There has been an earth quake in Alaska and a sunami warning for the Washington coast. My OH is flying there right now, to visit our daughter and family. I just called them to wake then up. Hope this isnt fake news..

All our members that live in Alaska or Washington, keep safe.

The warning has been cancelled - no need to worry. At first the quake was assessed as 8.1 which triggers an automatic warning. It was revised to 7.9 and 90 mins after the quake nothing had arrived at the island near where it happened, they would have expected a tsunami in an hour.

Yes...what a relief.. My mother and my oldest son were in San Francisco in the 1989 earth quake there.. another son was working in a bank in the WTC on 9/11 and recently arrived in London when the Underground bombing.. So this morning I thought, not again!

It was nice to have been able to wake up my family.

Most of my husband's half of the family (not very many of them it must be said) were in London on 7/7 and I had taken OH to the station at sill o'clock to catch the train to Kings Cross which arrived about 3 mins after the bombing! By the time he emerged from the platform everything was on lock down, he noticed all was chaos (still thought to be a power problem) so he set off to walk to his meeting - which was moved so they could run the press info from there. Of course - I couldn't get hold of him once I found out about it from TV which I switched on to watch while doing the ironing. Talk about blue funk!

Frightening! Ohhhh, the difference 3 minutes makes, huh? Sorry you had to live through that painful ‘not knowing’, but so glad for those 3 minutes.

Wow, Gaijin! That’s a bit freaky! I would have thought ‘not again’, too, I hope all escaped without injury!

It was, after all, the kind of earthquake which doesn't usually cause tsunamis. The authorities are really pleased, however, with how effective the warning system turned out to be - a dry run, so to speak. It was the first thing I heard about when I got up this morning, I felt my heart went into my mouth, I guess we are all so aware of what tsunamis can do after SE Asia and Japan the possibility really terrifies us now.
