Update re Review

Hi all. Saw Doc re my recent blood tests and the news is good - my ESR is 5mm/h and CRP is 3mg/L. I got a printout of all the results but they don't make much sense to me. The Doc has prescribed a once a week AA tablet and a tablet (Accrete D3). After reading other Posts re AA tablets I am going to hold back on that one as I do have live Yoghurt first thing before breakfast every morning and I, like many others, are loathe to put too many Meds in when they may be unnecessary. I am on the slow tapering method on Pred and started on 6mg this month which appears to be going OK (fingers crossed) first diagnosed May this year. Only thing at present is a horrendous head cold which I have had for a week already and I am not usually susceptible to colds perhaps it's PMR. Where does all this "stuff" come from! Is it OK do you think to take Paracetomol with the other Meds? or any other suggestions.

Many thanks for your good advice as always and to fellow sufferers and a HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND HEALTHIER NEW YEAR TO ALL 🍾

PS. The photo, if it has uploaded OK is my baby great grandson making this 4 generations of this half of my Family (Son, Granddaughter, Great Grandson Oliver, and Me)

Hi there,.

You seem to be doing fine. Lovely photo of the generations. It’s a lovely thing to have. Prednisolone damps down the immune system which probably explains why you have contracted a cold. I avoid people with colds like the plague. Paracetamol is fine for you. I take it all the time for my osteoarthritis.

Paracetamol should be fine - if it does anything at all. I might as well take a smartie...

You're down to 6mg pred and he's decided to hand out AA and vit D/calcium now? Bit cart before the horse if you ask me! But I would ask for a dexascan first before taking the AA.

Lovely photo!

What a lovely photograph, Paracetamol is perfectly fine. Alendronic Acid is a medication that tries to combat the loss of bone density, in our case because Prednisalone has this as a side effect. It is advisable to have a DEXA scan to assess your current bone density and tests to see if you are deficient in vit D before you take AA which has been shown to have quite severe side effects. It may also not be as effective as first thought, some worrying reports are being published.

I may have misunderstood you, but we’re you thinking of Omeprazole that coats the stomach to prevent damage from Pred, when you said about the Yoghurt. I use Yoghurt instead of Omeprazole too, don’t like those side effects either.

I hope your rotten head cold gets better soon, infections and viruses drag on when we have a compromised immune system. Take lots of vit C the body can’t store it and it can chase off these illnesses.

Have a happy Christmas and a Happy healthy new year!
