Yes. It was very useful when I was diagnosed. I find books on several health issues I have been dx with over the years are very useful to have. You can dip into them as symptoms evolve and you can stop thinking you are mad or too imaginative!!

I have first edition I found really helpful - is second edition very different?

in reply to shella

I have no way of knowing, but found this... "This second edition incorporates recommendations by international working groups on the diagnosis and management of PMR and GCA, and findings from research published since 2014. A full references list and index have been added. "

Not a lot, just updated and an additional chapter I think.

No - the second edition is an update, with a few more patient stories included. If you have the first edition I don't think you should spend your money on the second!

I read it when I was first diagnosed, it was a massive help. I have carried on reading and researching, it stops me feeling so helpless. If people have a kindle it is available for download too.

Yes this is an excellent book! I ordered this book right after I came home from the Rheumy's office being diagnosed with PMR. It was very informative and easy to read and understand.

Yes, the book was helpful. Sheffield Jane (one of my best buds) nailed it...whatever we can do to feel in control gives us a sense of participation in our healing. I now realize PMR is a strong willed constant companion needing a lot of attention. Learning the foreign language of pacing, inflammation, tapering was not on our radar screen prior to club membership!

Please tell her THANK YOU for me. I found the book and this forum invaluable in the last week or so. Big love.
