Hi all, noticed an indent under my breast and went to see doctor yesterday, who also found what she described as a ridge of tissue/fat just above indent, have been referred to hospital. Just wondering should I be worried? Anyone else had these symptoms. Thanks

Havent had the symptoms, but have always been told to observe and report changes in breast appearance and feel. Usually minor issues, but always good to be safe and have them checked out.

Keep us posted...sending good energy, Jerri

You must be worried Lilltenannie, I haven't personally exprerienced this. I really hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about. I would do exactly as you are doing and just tell myself that they have made massive leaps forward in the treatment of ( worse case scenario) breast cancer. Theo's other grandma has stage 4 breast cancer and she's fitter than me. We all know people don't we? Sending blessings and love your way. X

Well, an indent can be something to worry about as well as something not to worry about. Breast cancer can show up in a variety of ways, not just lumps as can totally benign things. You're not going to stop worrying until you've had a proper exam and the all clear, no matter what anyone says here. Sadly none of us can say either way; you need a skilled exam, an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy if they are suspicious of that result. Been there done that in the No Man's Land of The Wait. Well done for going to the doc and not just hoping it'll go away. So sorry, you've got that to contend with this.

Hi,

It’s easy to say don’t worry, but it’s natural to a bit. But you’ve done the most difficult bit by going to the doctor and set things in motion. Hopefully it will all turn out fine and you’ll get the all clear.

If you are wondering if you should be worried - the answer is no! No point being worried until they decide there IS something - sufficient unto the day the evil thereof!!!! Though of course it is easy to say.

I have not had these symptoms Lilltenanny, l know you must be anxious about this but changes in the breast tissue is often not anything to worry about but should always be checked out. I hope that this will be the latter and not anything serious. Please let us know how you get on,all the best for a good outcome xx

Not really what one wants for Christmas - but all the very best. My husband had his cancer op on Dec 14th - 23 (or is it 24) years ago. Still very much alive and kicking.

O Dear Lilltenanny that is not the news we hoped for. 13 years ago I had a kidney operation and I remember the period before as the hardest. You don’t know what is going on inside. I won’t be the first to say lots of times all goes Well and after a while you look back in gratitude at least that is what happened to me. Be even more Good for yourself and I wish your beloved ones stand around you for support. Take a glass of the best wine if you feel like it and try to have a Good sleep, 🍷💐

I had a ridge like you described some years ago. I got it checked out v quickly, mammogram etc. Thankfully it was fine. You have done the right thing and hopefully yours will turn out to be nothing to worry about too. In any event, an early diagnosis is important. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and sending best wishes.

Latest news

Had consultation with surgeon on Tuesday, outcome is I have to have a partial mastectomy with reconstruction because my tumour is in a bad location and will have to remove a big chunk, will have to have healthy breast made to measure

(looks like I will be having a boob job)trying to look on bright side and keep my spirit up, not always easy. So fed up with family and friends telling me their problems, I’m only interested in my lump, makes me sound selfish, but that’s all I think about. Sorry for sounding off. Wish me luck for Mondh

All done and home again, not sure how I’m feeling, very mixed emotions, still feels surreal. Taking it easy for Christmas then back to outpatients on 27th December. Pain is manageable but remembering not to use right arm is frustrating

The NHS at its best though really - no messing about when it really matters.

Have a nice quiet and relaxing Christmas it will be strange I know, I've had a couple that were immediately post surgery for one of us and it was VERY surreal.

I must admit the NHS really comes into its own in emergency mode. I saw my GP on the Friday evening had bloods etc checked on the Saturday and was booked in for a general anaesthetic op on the Sunday. The GP did offer to get an ambulance for the Friday night but I said I was OK to wait until the following day.

All the best - hope it doesn't make you too tired. It doesn't always - I had a patient in a research project who almost refused r/t because she didn't want to be tired and unable to do her charity work. I persuaded her to at least try and she sialed through, doing the 4 flights of stairs between the r/t suite and my department every day as her test of how she felt!
