I would not take any more, it claearly doesn't suit you. Is it for a urine infection? I would rather have those symptoms!

It's really scary I thought I was having a heart attack, I will ask the doctor for a different one

Sudden chest pain is a common side effect of nitrofurantoin!

I have just been put on a short course and I may have just been eating candies, they had no side effects at all. It does seem that you have got a bad reaction to them, I should tell your doctor as soon as possible. Do you think you are taking something else such as a health supplement that might be reacting with it?

Not taking anything else just paracetamol, which is fine to take with them , I'm going to ring my GP first thing, it's quite scary

It definitely sounds like a bad reaction in that case. Good luck with your GP and I hope they find something suitable.

Do you have PMR or GCA? This site deals with these diseases. There may be a better more specific site for you to join.

Hi Winnie. I have just been on two separate 3 day course of that antibiotic which didn't work out and now on the 3rd day of a 7 day course of Trimethoprim which the Doctor put me on. I must say that I persevered with the Nitrofurantion even tho I got a fuzzy head whilst on them. A sample of my urine was sent to the Hospital because apparently there has to be a compatible antibiotic when on Preds. The sample came back and all I was told was that it was the right antibiotic. Anyhow this one isn't giving me any problem at the moment but I hope that it clears up this infection, and fast. Good luck.

Frequent UTI's, you should ask for a referral to a Consultant Urologist.

I had the same reaction to Nitrofurantoin which was prescribed for a persistant antibiotic resistant e-coli infection in my bladder. Four lots of trimethoprim and some other antibiotic didn't touch it and eventually I was given something else which seems to have been effective although I am not convinced.

I believe reactions to nitrofurantoin are common, especially chest problems. I hope your doctor gives you something else pretty quickly. Persevere, and good luck.

They did give me a slight headache, but they did cure a long-term, recurrent UTI, so worth it for me!

I recently took this for a urine infection. Horrible drug!! Felt very very tired, bad headache and generally yucky. At the moment I'm taking d- mannose as a precautionary measure after finishing the antibiotic. Do not want to take this antibiotic again! I was given this antibiotic as urine sample sent away to lab and I was resistant to other antibiotics.
