Scare this weekend

I am newly diagnosed with PMR (end of June) woke up Saturday in the middle of the night and my left eye was watering and burning. Watering gone in morning and vision was so blurry I could not see anything clearly with left eye. Eye hurt a little and felt like it was "sticking" Saw GP later in day and she just said to watch since it was slowly improving. See ophthalmologist tomorrow. What a scare. Vision ok today

Hi barbthy,

Pred can cause watery eyes in some, but good to hear you have made appointment with ophthalmologist, who hopefully will confirm no problems.

Please let us know outcome. I

I was diagnosed with PMR around the same time as you. Only last week had a scare with sight myself, blurred vision and 'strobe' flashing. As this was new to me I paniced a bit and went to A&E. Docs were great though and assessment, tests very thorough. Bloods negative for GCA indicators. Opticians gave me emergency appointment the following day to check me out and all good, and a follow up appointment in stroke clinic has been arranged for later this week. Guess they just want to cover all bases.

As a newbie to this condition myself I am learning all the time from these guys and gals on this forum, but just wanted you to know how similar our circumstances are and I empathise with your 'scared' status. I guess over time this status will decrease as time and experience is gained, especially with our new found friends supporting us along our journey.

Hopefully all will be resolved for you soon. Best wishes on your eventual recovery.

I get 'dry eyes', which then water a lot as the eye is compensating by over-producing tears. When they are 'dry', the tears are thicker than normal and it's as if I'm looking through a film, so everything is blurred. I have to keep blinking it away. If I wake in the night I get that sticking feeling and the eye opens only in slow motion. I use dry eye drops which I buy, (less the £1 at Home Bargains!) but are available on prescription. They contain Sodium Hyaluronate. See what the ophthalmologist says today. I hope it can be easily treated.

Saw ophthaTlmologist yesterday and all is well, pressures good, no sign of GCA, Dry eyes and will use drops morning and night. Thanks to all who so kindly responded. On 2nd week of prednisone 15mg following Bristol schedule. Taking it in divided dose 10mg at 0700 and 5mg at 2100. Some shoulder soreness and a little stiffness in morning and more soreness starting around 2000. Totally tolerable at this time. Thanks for all the advice. Still have a question, when I decrease to 12.5 mg how should I split this?

What tablets do you have? Plain white? 5's and 1's ?

Or coloured gastro-resistant? 5mg red, 2.5mg brown?

I have plain whites, 5's and 10's

You need some 1's to be able to reduce comfortably. It also makes it easier to split the dose to 2 shares that work for YOU- everyone is different.

Hi its a while since I posted on here, I take 9mg having been on 10 mg then down to 7 mg and symptoms all came back so am now on 9 mg and doing ok. I take the white tablets and I am taking Omeprazole 20 mg to stop the gastro problems.

I was diagnosed last October but think I had PMR earlier in the year, My eyes are puffy apart from gaining weight I think I am very lucky as I seem to be living pretty much a normal life.

but without this forum I would have gone mad not knowing what was wrong with me, my doctor practice is excellent but not much know about PMR its very much up to me to ask for blood tests etc but at least I get them when I think I need them.

Hope you get sorted soon.

Mike
