I am a lot of medication for osteoporosis, take iron tabs, accrete for bones, levothyroxine, emozol etc daily. Had a bout of D&V last night so decided on a starve day today. Query, what do I do re medication? If I just keep drinking water and nothing else is it ok to take Medes ?

I assume your osteoporosis medication is only 1x weekly - so that isn't a problem. I'm not sure I'd take the iron, it can upset your gut all on its own (unlike most people I develop diarrhoea!). Otherwise you are probably fine to take them with water alone.

How long have you been on Emozul (omeprazole) ? Are you sure it isn't that causing the D&V, it does have form!

My osteo med is not weekly. I was on alendronic acid for years resulting in 2 fractured femurs. So never again. See previous comments. Am now on accrete 2 a day taken

in the afternoon

Thanks for your help. I do appreciate getting info on H \ unlocke.

Accrete is just a calcium and vit D supplement - the same as Calceos or AdCal. Missing them for one day won't make a big difference either if your stomach is too upset to take them.

Sorry Gillymar - I'd forgotten about your AA history, there are a 3 or 4 people on the forums now with similar stories.

No apology needed. Thanks for the input. How great this form is.

Yes, as mentioned by PMRpro, Omeprazole can adversely affect the bowel and I speak from experience. That and another PPI, Lansoprazole, were stopped in their tracks by my rheumatologist almost before they were started due to almost immediate diarrhoea and stomach pain. Live yoghurt served me well as a stomach liner before taking the steroids even on a starting dose of 40mg with no further stomach/digestive problems.

Certainly, keep drinking water - arrowroot biscuits can help with the diarrhoea and sipping sports drinks can help with any vomiting. Of course, if the D&V doesn't subside in the next couple of days or for long enough to absorb your steroids in particular, you will need to see your GP. I do hope you feel better soon.

Interesting. Thanks. I have been on med s for reflux for years . Nexium was good one but stopped as too expensive. Now advertised on TV ! Now on emoprozol. Seems ok but I do get diahorrea often. Shall investigate.
