Magnesium Citrate

I try to get magnesium from Green Vegetables, and nuts. A friend suggested using a small dose of Magnesium Citrate Powder. I believe it is easily absorbed by the body.

He said that an excess amount has a laxative effect.

Have any of you PMR sufferers used this for muscle pain relief?

I've been taking magnesium as a supplement for about 3 years now. It was recommended by my doctor to deal with cramp. It works very well and I have noticed since using it that my restless legs problem has also dwindled to nothing.

I think quite a lot of us have used magnesium salts for muscle cramps at various times. I use it occasionally but in the form of magnesium carbonate effervescent tablets because that is what they sell here in Italian supermarkets. The citrate salt is soluble, the carbonate leaves a bit of solid in the glass so you have to shake it a bit.

There are various magnesium salts on the market, including Epsom salts, which are said to be "for" various specific needs. There was a post about it recently somewhere. The magnesium is magnesium - the differences are in the other part of the stuff. None of them will do anything about PMR - but they may help sore muscles if they are due to you being short on magnesium.

~Your friend is right - excess amount will have a laxative effect and that will do your tum no good at all.

I have a sensitive gut including mal-absorption issues (most of the time) so I only take a small amount of magnesium orally.

I use a magnesium & lavender body spray morning & night applying to legs and arms and for an added bonus (from time to time) soak my feet in a bucket of goodies (rose petals, vit E body oil, the main ingredient being Epsom Salts - always have a better nights sleep too.

Good luck~
