So Angry!!!

I had to call ago today for a repeat prescription as my GP gave me 28 Pred tablets, which at 15mg a day, lasts 9 days! When I called today, the dispensary said I had had a prescription on the 10th I explained that I had almost run out, to be told that my Gp, who I had seen once, (and at the time I had commented that he was totally uninterested ) has stated that I am on 7.5mg!!!! Unbelievable!!!!! I waited for him to call me all evening...did he ring....NO!! I am so angry I can't tell you!!!!! I now totally understand how uninterested some GP's are!!!!! Sorry for the rant!!

  • Hi,

He obviously didn't get a degree in Maths!

If he worked out that a pack of 28 tablets @ 5mg is going to last a month when he thinks you're on a dose of 7.5mg per day he's sadly mistaken. Oh Lordy!

Think he needs a lesson in maths and writing prescriptions!

  • My GP is hopeless at arithmetic too. My CRP had gone up, and on my notes she wrote it had gone down! When I pointed this out to her, she said it had only gone up a small amount, so I said it went up sixty per cent (I did maths A Level!), her reply was " If you want to look at like that." How else do you look at it for goodness sake?

  • M children used get great amusement out of lighting the blue touch paper with my mother by dropping in the conversation the latest official claim that "the

r a t e of inflation was going down" but then she did not have the advantage of years of higher education.

  • What is printed on the pharmacy instruction label? That will tell outhe dose you are supposed to take because the details are taken from the prescription the doctor wrote. This will prove who was right.

  • I know I'm a bit scatty at times but I really don't think I would agree to half my Pred in one go!

  • I sympathise. I had the same problem and it took more than a week to get the next prescription so I was constantly on edge and stressed if I'd have enough for the weekends? I had a chat with the practise nurse on the phone about the problem and stated my case. She said she'd have a word with the obstinate Doctor, and bingo - I now get 90 on my prescription to last me the month, I'd go this route.. have a word with the practise nurse or manager. Good luck!

  • Report it to the practice manager. It is not acceptable for a patient on pred to be shortchanged (for want of a better word) as it is one of the drugs you MUST NOT stop suddenly as it could make you very ill.

  • Absolutely agree with PMRpro. Go to the Practice Manager. I've 'complained' about one of the GPs to the senior partner in the practice, through several tissues worth of angry tears! I get 120 x 1mg per month and 56 x 5mg every 2 months on my repeats.

  • The repeat prescription process is not always helpful on the tapering process. When my 5mg steps involved a switch requiring a 2.5mg tablet my initial collection was rebuffed as I was informed by the receptionist that GP said there was no such tablet (there is!) So I insisted and got the prescription change. Likewise when I moved onto the scale requiring 1mg steps I had to be proactive and initiate the prescription amendments.

  • Please ignore capitals

Sometimes i THINK it is the prescription admin, bod in the back office who is not quite up to the niceties and may be discouraged from querying more complicated schedules - just a theory. iN THE PAST I have certainly had my share of rUn-ins of the "I HAVE RUN OUT...nO i CANNOT WAIT 3 DAYS FOR A REPEAT" Perish the thought you might have some in reserve and be able to go away for a bit with ut special requests etc.The distress this causes to people with long-term conditions is q uite unnecessary and the constant toing and froing between the chemist and the surgery sorting out mistakes and non-arrivals of the expected scriip has to be seen to be believed .

In MY CASE IT IS ppARKINSONS drugs WHERE SUDDEN STOPPAGE may END YOU UP IN HOSPITAL AND / OR DEAD. At THE MOMENT....touch wood... THEY SEEM TO BE WILLING TO DISH OUT WHATeVER i ASK FOR AND mY PATCHES ARE CERTAINLY EXPENSIVE BUT i'M NOT LIKELY TO BE MAKING A KILLING ON THE BLACK mARKET AFTER ALL !!!

  • If you have a person doing the prescriptions at your practice and most do,speak to her and explain, she will sort it with your go,it won't be a problem.

  • Unfortnately they may be the problem - see other post
