Just out of hospital with an acute middle ear infection. Because I have Gca, I was given 60mgs of pred, whilst preciously getting down to 7mgs. Am now back to 10mgs. However I find I have lost all my taste when eating, like eating cardboard. Anyone experienced this. Thank you in advance for any replies.

I don't have GCA but did notice back in the summer when I got down to 11 mg of pred that I had lost my sense of taste and smell. It lasted a couple of months or so and I put it down to pred, not sure if it was or not, but both senses have returned.

Hello. I lose all taste with any pred over 10mg but gain an increased sense of smell. As I am ,currently back on 30mg I am constantly asking my husband if the food tastes ok. I now blame anything unusual on the pred and try to live with it. I am still experiencing scalp soreness and tingling but I will try not to increase any more as I started feeling depressed and very anxious when I tried 35mg. I know these pills are life savers but they are still evil and I was told it may take five years or more to be rid of them. So we just have to accept that I suppose and enjoy the good days. Spring is coming!!

Sorry to hear you're still having problems, but with my history you can probably guess what I'm going to say - better to feel anxious than risk your sight.
