My wife has had pmr now 6 months. During reading up on pmr I have seen connections to problems with the immune system . In our local paper, in Spain, is an article about a product called Immunocal . The article claims to restore the immune system and thereby curing many things. Has anyone experience or knowledge of this? Thanks Jardinero

No but there is a Research section specifically for PMR&GCA located in Madrid and they are also affiliated to EULAR. Might be worth contacting them and if you find out anything at all - please let us know.
PMR is an auto-immune illness part of the Vasculitis Family.
You do not want to improve the immune system because that was what caused the problem in the first place, your wife's immune system decided to go rogue and attack her body rather than protect her. If she is taking steroids they will suppress the immune system, so you defiinitely don't want to increase it as it will negate the effect of the medication.
I'm sure there are plenty of people selling things claiming to restore the immune system and "cure" all sorts of things, They are most likely to lighten your bank balance to the benefit of theirs! I answered a post on another forum just yesterday about the use of a drug used for high blood pressure that claims to "cure" autoimmune disorders - it's part of the very successful business of selling cures for the incurable to the desperate. PMR and GCA cannot be cured, they can be managed quite well using pred. In both cases they eventually burn out and go into remission for more than 75% of patients. There is another possible medical approach, tocilizumab, which has been trialled and appears extremely promising. It is expensive and not yet approved for use in GCA -but currently that is the only realistic option besides pred.
