Polymyalgia and anaemia

I'm new here, I've been diagnosed with Polymyalgia for about two months. Apparently I'm also suffering with anaemia. Is this common?

Suzie, I became anaemic in my undiagnosed days due to the inflammation of what was eventually diagnosed as PMR.  It did right itself quite quickly without treatment and hopefully as the steroids get full control over your inflammation, it will do the same in your case too. Meanwhile, try eating plenty of iron-rich foods.

PMR is an autoimmune disorder - and anaemia is also very often found alongside autoimmune illnesses. It is listed as one of the signs and symptoms.

Taking long term pred,  I became B12 deficient, but my folate and ferritin have always been normal,

Taking  PPIs  which are prescribed to protect your stomach if you are taking Pred.   can sometimes cause malabsorption of iron  so a catch 22 situation,  I took PPIs for a while but they gave me side effects.

Like Celtic I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia about 7 months before PMR laid me low. My B12 and D3 are now low from being on steroids. I take supplements of both on top of my multi vitamin.

I was prescribed iron tablets at the time of diagnosis. I have been fine until recently but now, after almost five years, I have iron deficiency again. I've probably been neglecting my diet and not eating enough green veg.

Is it actually possible to UNSUBSCRIBE from HEALTH UNLOCKED? I have asked 5 times but zilch!!!!

Just try & UNSUBSCRIBE from this site, Its impossible!

I have been anaemic, hovering around the 10 Mark since I have had PMR. My rheumatologist said it used to be referred to as the anemia of chronic ill health.

Blood tests can say how your iron levels are and if taking iron will help. The worst of it is it's another thing to make you feel tired.

I was told it was Anemia of Inflammation and Chronic Illness. I am anemic too, diagnosed with PMR three months ago. There is an interesting description of it here. irondisorders.org/anemia-of...

Thanks very much for that! It makes sense, I have been put on iron tablets, anemia of Inflammation and Chronic Illness has not been mentioned!
