If you have got down to 1mg after 16 months I'd not bother! That is a very short time to get to such a low dose. The pred will also have masked other aches and pains, especially a bit of osteoarthritis or other knee wear and tear. It also takes some months for your body to get over the pred - some people reckon up to a year. Was it better at 2mg? Those are very low doses.
PMR can be managed at a primary care level I would have thought if you have got that far. In fact a rheumie is possibly useful at diagnosis time and getting people sorted out if they have problems. I am sure an awful lot of people never see a rheumie.
