It shouldn't be your body trying to kick in at a dose of 18mg - it is below 10mg that the adrenals need to start "waking up". However, it is a new, lower dose and your body may be getting used to it still. Higher pred does give some people a boost and maybe you are now down to a dose that doesn't do it for you. Or you may be hatching an infection, a cold or something and your body is telling you to rest.

hi olive,

Nothing unusual or to worry about -it happens to us all! Yet another Pred side effect for some.

I wouldn't have thought your body was kicking in yet, 18mg is still a lot higher than "normal" levels but I could be wrong.

I used to do it quite regularly for a while, as soon as I sat to read paper or do crossword, off I went! If I felt drowsy I'd get and do something else, even just make a cuppa. It then went away, but now that I'm down to 5.5mg it's started again, I think probably because I'm at that critical level when adrenals not sure what to do!!

No surprise there then.

Don't worry, just enjoy the rest!. DL

Olive, enjoy "dropping off" - I do it all the time.....and I'm no longer on steroids!

I'm now down to 15.5 and am enjoying these delicious little unplanned naps from which I'm usually woken by the phone ringing. I think they may be due to the fact that now I'm feeling a bit more normal I'm doing more and resting less without being exhausted. But I'm just enjoying them because as you say they never last much more than 10-15 mins so they're not going to spoil my sleep.

Only 10 minutes??!! I'm just down to 15mg, and can drop off for a good hour after lunch, and still feel tired at night. I put it down to a combination of PMR and the steroids. Clearly, the body needs rest!

I used to need very little sleep. I am now always falling asleep, particularly watching TV.
