Off prednisolone since just after Xmas but I seem to be catching everything else!!

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else? I considered myself extremely fortunate because I was able to come off the Pred totally just after Xmas. The thing is though since I came off the Pred I've had nothing but cold after cold after chesty cough and lyrangitis and now a very bad bacterial ear infection. I didn't have any, not one, of these problems for the whole 2 yrs I was on the Pred. Can anyone tell me is this to be expected? I would be grateful for any thoughts as my ear is hurting like crazy at the moment, many thanks. Lx

How strange! I have had less infections while on pred too - and that isn't supposed to happen! Not off yet - but your story make me not sure I want to be. I wonder how others have fared.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Lollysimip1== Been meaning to add to my own very recent blog on what I take for PMR and Adrenal Fatigue and here it is. I was introduced to ACS 200 - extra strenth - advanced cellular silver - about a year ago. The wholistic guy helping me also recommended it to my daughter and family. It has been around for a while but until lately, docs really do not know about it. Best was to find out all the particulars == go to their web site and most importantly, LISTEN

to the physician who gives thee 20 minute lecture before a huge crowd of other medical people about this silver. I must tell you right off the bat...THIS IS N O T... THE SILVER YOU HAVE HEARD AND PROBABLY TRIED OVER THE YEARS!!!! I cannot emphasize this enough. It is 1,000 times stronger....and is now being introduced to medical schools in the U.S., obviously very slowly , as it has been absolutely verified as to its effecatsy. Check the WEB and pull down all the info you can on it...there is a lot....mostly from companies who want you to buy it. It's $56.00 a large bottle in spray form. It kills bacteria and viruses within seconds to minutes. I'm using it..to kill my PMR!!!

This you will see, in addition to many other sicknesses that are 100% verified and do check how this is done...very important. I've dumped my older silver, even a bottle I've never opened. I take 15 sprays under the tongue AM and PM.

Is it working? I can't say as yet because I had PMR for half a year or more before I found out it was not Lymes. If you read my original blog, you will see I take a number of other health proucts. Oxygen tank is another modality which I just started to use a couple weeks ago. This will all take time so can't give any absolutes as yet, except for the silver, that....is an absolute. The stories as to how it helps are terrific. Can be sprayed in the eyes, nostrils, on wounds directlly, mouth, etc. A God send liquid. I do not get vaxes at all, they can really make you sick. God bless.

This is what the Mayo Clinic says about colloidal silver:

"Colloidal silver isn't considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim.

Colloidal silver products are made of tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid — the same type of precious metal used in jewelry, dental fillings, silverware and other consumer goods. Colloidal silver products are usually marketed as dietary supplements that are taken by mouth. Colloidal silver products also come in forms to be injected or applied to the skin.

Manufacturers of colloidal silver products often claim that they are cure-alls, boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, eye ailments and prostatitis. However, no sound scientific studies to evaluate these health claims have been published in reputable medical journals. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.

It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr-JIR-e-uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.

Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures. Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine, quinolone, tetracycline and thyroxine medications."

"The stories as to how it helps are terrific" - they certainly are stories. There is NO properly backed evidence for it doing anything. Yes there are a load of "how wonderful" quotes when you google ACS 200 - but they are from the people looking to make money from gullible punters whose bank balances are the only beneficiaries.

Hi: This WAS very true of silver until ACS200 came out a few years ago. All the stories you have just written probably was true of silver in its >>former<< state. This is >>no longer true<</

Of up AACS200 on your computer and read ...all...the information, you will see it is now taught in medical schools here in the USA! They do not teach the 100% effecasy of a product in medical schools ...check out the name of it...far from it. We have a young Navel doctor in our family, my grandaughters husband and she is in George Washington University medical school studying to be his nurse assistant. . The Pharmaceutical Industry does not want products like this to get around because they work and it's taken a few years to do even this.. You mention interacting with medications...it doesn't. It's to be taken WITH

Really, MyDebbie, our HealthUnlocked PMRGCA forum is not the place for this kind of blatant commercial promotion. You can't "kill" PMR or GCA. They are not bugs. Furthermore, they are not caused by bugs either. A recent study of the human biome at Mayo has recently put that one to bed for good. Please desist.

Hello Lollysimp1, I reduced my dose of Pred about a month ago and got a sinus infection, a bad skin infection, Achillies tendon problems, oral thrush and was extremely tired and depressed generally. I've upped the dose for now and will have another go at reducing it again soon. I believe the Pred does more than just help PMR so once you are off it completely you are vulnerable to all sorts of other things. Not much fun : (

me too - off pred and back in hosp for another virus that caused my adrenals to got a bit funky for a while. I had nothing while on the steroids - I would say we are more suseptible to infections after as immune system has been supressed and adrenals all over over the place. Take it easy do all the sensible things like keeping hydrated, eating good food etc. All the best S

I am posting this again so it is more likely to be seen:

This is another real scientific view of colloidal silver:

Mayo Clinic is not on the list, yet, of hospitals who know about ACS 200. It can take years for a medical product to that people know about...the Pharmaceutical Industry has seen to that!!. Unfortunately, you can blog all you want about the Colloidal silver of the past, this is not it. I do not sell it or need to. It's a product all these blogs indicate they have not read the info regarding it. I did not say it "cured" PMR...I take it for that and many other reasons you just need to check out yourself, not just go by what people..lthink! . Well, it's out there for the >>informed<< individual who looks to the future of medicine and uses his computer to check out all the new to you..items that are out there. Sorry for all of you who don't choose to find out the real story.

Oh dear, I wasn't quite expecting this! Thank you for your replies. My original post wasn't asking for pills and potions to cure my recent bout of generalized ill health or my PMR I was just asking if anybody else had experienced the same. I also think I would prefer to deal with my coughs, colds, infections etc in more of a traditional way by taking anti biotics if need be or to be honest (and if I can get away with it!) nothing at all! Less is more for me, especially after having to put steroids into my body for the past 2 years.

I haven't seemed to suffer infections, as such, since coming off steroids (I hope I don't regret saying that!), but I did experience some severe infections/viruses whilst taking them, including chest infection, severe throat infection with swollen glands which led to all sorts of scans to rule out lymphoma, and shingles.

Have you tried taking daily Manuka honey - it is very helpful to the immune system, among other things, and many of us have found it beneficial.

Another standby of mine which seemed to eventually knock infections on the head during my steroid days is daily fresh garlic, eaten with my evening meal so as not to offend anyone! It helps that I happen to like it. In fact I returned home from the theatre one evening with the start of a sore throat, crushed a clove of garlic and put it on a slice of toast - no sore throat the following day!

Thank you Celtic. I too am a fan of garlic so that shouldn't be too much of a chore! :-) would I buy the Manuka honey in a health food shop? I guess there's no definitive answer as to why I'm experiencing a bout of minor ill health at the moment as it doesn't happen to everyone. I really don't want to have to start them again now so I'll just have to hope it settles down. All the best. X

Lollysimp - I buy the Manuka honey from Holland & Barrett. You can also buy it online. It's very expensive so I always stock up when they have special offer days such as 'buy one get one half price'. You can see cheaper versions in the supermarket but it's important to buy those marked 'UMF' - this guarantees the antibacterial properties of the product. It is available in UMF 20+, 15+, 10+ and 5+. I have always gone for the UMF 10+, and often include 15+ during the winter months.

Lemon juice squeezed into warm water is my first drink of the day - a good detox, so that might also help.

It's early days since you came off steroids so hopefully your immune system will soon pick up, plus summer is on its way (hopefully!) so there should be less 'bugs' around.
