My wife is experiencing extreme pain from this. Feels pressure, like giving birth through rectum.

Cant seem to find a doctor who knows what to do to remedie the issue.

Yes I have had the levator ani syndrome for 3 years diagnosed by a colorectal surgeon I actually saw two of them.... So I will tell you what I've done and I'm quite a bit better now but it did take time but right away I was referred to a pelvic floor physical therapist and she started working on me and I really noticed helpful differences but she told me it would take a long time and she was right... I also went on cyclobenzaprine muscle relaxer 3 /5 mg a day for a year which was very helpful I did think I had put into neuralgia but it seems that my pelvic floor tight muscles had a spasming irritate the nerve which created burning as well as the stabbing pain so I went on a low dose nerve pain medication which is also an anti-anxiety and an antidepressant so that has helped very much. some people find Botox helps a lot which they usually inject into the levator muscles and the puborectalis muscle seems to be one of the main culprits with most people.. There are a lot of things you can do about it which is the good news.... Things like suppositories compounded with muscle relaxer and lidocaine can be ordered by your doctor and they help a lot of people.... I would recommend going on the Facebook groups levator ani support and also pelvic floor dysfunction support because I am on those groups and those people have been through it all and they help a lot their suggestions have brought me so much comfort and I feel so much better because of it all. I would just recommend your wife be open to all of this because it's the only way you can get better it takes a few modalities to get on the road to recovery but mostly acceptance that we have this condition is helpful because more than be cured it's got to be managed to keep life is normal as possible and it can get a lot better ...last thing I can think of right now is that I got a cushion to sit on and it's important that you don't irritate that area so the cushion to sit on his a big deal and she probably should sit as little as possible ...lie down to watch TV etc cushion in the car cushion at home that kind of thing.... Best wishes and she is welcome to message me if she wants some more support

Well thank you very much for responding. My wife is a wonderful person that worked in the world Trade Center in NYC but retired after the bombing in the basement in the 80's.I would be grateful if you had time to speak to her just to give her a conversation with hope in it.

My email is brian.seekamp@yahoo.com. if you touch base i can give you my phone number and it would surely make our day. I'm her husband and I'm on the internet at all times of the day.

Please reach out and we can see what happens.

Thank you very much

Brian

Where are you at in florida? I have similar issues, and I go to physical therapy as well as medicating with 25mg amitryptaline nightly. I can be pain free with this combo but still get occasional, albeit tolerable, flares. I live in Florida and can refer you to a great PT if you are in the Tampa area.
