I’m a 32 female. Several years ago, I had my mitochondrial Ab tested. I live in US so I’m not sure if the numbered values are different but it’s been suspected that I have PBC. What confuses me is the standard range from my doctors clinic is 0.0-20.0 units. Mine was 21.3 units, which was declared positive.
However, other ranges include:
equivocal 20.1-24.9
Positive >24.9.
Can anyone explain these values. Foolishly, I never went back for a follow up for these values to be explained or any further tests performed. But would like to hear other opinions or comparisons. Thanks!

Lab ranges differ from lab to lab. Not sure why your doctor has another range as well. If they said it is positive, then you should follow up on it. Get tested again and follow through.
Ninjagirl is correct. Every lab does their own set of normal values by testing a large amount of people who have no medical problems - they are the labs "normal controls."
You should most definitely return for a follow up visit with your doctor.
PBC is nothing to take lightly, it can kill you if you never get treatment.
Equivocal indicate it may or not be and needs to be determined in conjunction with other tests done or other testing should be done. Above 24.9 means a definite positive, which you do not have.
