Second opinion?

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 PBC. I live in Richmond Virginia area. Does anyone have any recommendations for a specialist at VCU/MCV hospital. I just want a 2nd opinion.

Dr Shiffman. He's very good and works out of Richmond, Virginia as well as Newport News, Virginia. Google his bio. He's very good.

Thank you!

With all due respect, a diagnosis of PBC isnt made because of a doctor's opinion. Its a matter of your blood tests.

If your Alkaline Phos. and AntiMitochondrial Antibodies are elevated then you have Primary Biliary Cholangitis. Those two abnormal blood tests are "pathognomonic" for PBC (i.e. diagnostic).

It be nice if all drs thought that way. Too many these days don't meet the criteria for diagnosis. It's not just being high for ALP and AMA M2 but they have to be high enough.

I saw/see Mitchell Shiffman but he’s not with VCU any longer. I know there are a few pbcers who see someone there, so hopefully they’ll respond. If not I can reach out if it has to be there

I see Dr Shiffman at The Liver institute, Mary Immaculate hospital, Newport News, Virginia and was told he lives and works in Richmond, too traveling back and forth to both. I wonder if that means he is now only practicing in Newport News?

Dr. Shiffman is my doctor at Bon Secours St. Mary’s . I’m thinking I already have a good doctor.

Dr Shiffman works both in Richmond and Newport News as far as I know. His staff, for the most part, travel between the two as well.
