Has anyone been diagnosed in their early 30's or is it generally later in life? Does it make it more or less likely to be life threatening

i was diagnosed in my mid 30's, however the itch and symptoms first began in my late 20's but i mis understood them, so i believe i was at symptomatic stage of the disease at about 25. i have never seen anything that says the prognosis of the disease is related to the age of diagnosis, but its more to do with individual response to treatment...having said that i have reached advanced stages with cirrhosis at 38...

Hello, I was diagnosed when I was 30, I was tired and was itching a little nothing major but it was Raynauds that prompted my GP to send me for blood tests and thats when I was diagnosed. I only began taking Urso March 2011 and had my first liver biopsy December 2011. My consultant seems to think I have another underlying problem as the Urso is not working as he hoped and a recent course of steroids did not make a difference either. Saying that I feel fine, if anything I feel a fraud sometimes. As itchyandscratchy mentioned it all depends on the individuals response to treatment, all the best xxxx

I was diagnosed at 45yrs old. Looking back definitely had for about 10years before. By the time I was diagnosed had very inflated lft results and positive AMA and was warned it might be advanced. I went on URSO and within a year my liver had returned to normal in appearance and my LFTs were normal and have remained until today when I had my latest results when Ive managed my best result yet. So, no I dont think the age at which you are diagnosed necessarily effects the outcome.

Hi there, I was diagnosed in 2009 when I was 32. I was told that it was mainly seen in woman aged over 50 and that I didn't need to worry about getting cirrhosis or having to have a liver transplant.

Well I'm not sure how truthful my consultant really was! we shall see in the years to come. Three years later I do have an enlarged liver and spleen now which I was never told would happen. But that happened after being pregnant, so the doctors are not sure if it was because of the pregnancy or if it would of happened anyway. I am AMA negative so been told I'm not a clear cut case anyway.

One thing I have learnt 3 years down the line is that the doctors really don't know what is going to happen. Everyone is so different and the body is affected in so many different ways. Sorry, that is not meant to sound negative, just that everyone has their individual case but the best thing is not to worry about it and just carry on with life if you feel okay.
