hi everybody, can anyone please give me any... - PBC Foundation
hi everybody, can anyone please give me any info on where the best place to get travel insurance for PBC sufferers?
Hello Derann,
I have never yet been abroad but last year my husband and I were thinking of maybe doing so (didn't end up doing so).
I emailed the British Liver Trust as they can supply you with info regards travel insurance and who will insure. I received back a list via email and there are links to the websites with tel. no's.
I got a quick reply from BLT.
I can't obviously recommend anyone myself as as yet never had travel insurance in my life but also some of the companies on the list I received in July last year may have changed.
Good Luck and keep posted.
Hi
We have used Columbus, when you get a quote you need to identify your medical condition - PBC comes up, and answer a few questions and then complete the quote. I am sure when I was searching last year, they all (Tesco, AA etc) recognised PBC and you could get insured, just puts the price up a bit. Better to be up front, then they can't avoid paying out if you do need them.
Good Luck and you have remined me I need to get insurance for my trips thia year.

Travelmaster 01773 769406 (Mike - Holiday Services) in conjunction with Travellers Health Check (Mike will explain how it works). They are one of the few that will offer a yearly policy at a reasonable price. £95 for me & my husband and an additional £51.06 to cover all my conditions. Excess for PBC is £400 and with my AIH up to £500. I tried loads of different places because I wanted the yearly cover. Hope this helps. X
I`m 72 with PBC, my husband is 74 and had a stroke 10 years ago. Medici have covered us 16 days cruising the Med for £93 covering both conditions.
thanks everybody, managed to get cover from Columbus travel insurance at £62.38 for both my self and husband. hope your all keeping well.xx
Just been trying to get travel insurance to go to the USA. I spent an entire afternoon on the phone to insurance companies, and was told they couldn't insure for PBC, despite having answered "no" to all their additional questions (Have you had a liver transplant? Are you on the transplant list? Are you jaundiced? etc etc.) In the end I did find one company who insure people who are too great a risk for other companies, but it was £750 for 10 days. Needless to say, I'm having to risk not having the full insurance. I think whether you can get insurance is very much down to where you are going. Hope you have a great holiday! xxx
Oh Beanie thats awful - did you try the online quotes, as PBC comes up and if you answer no it will give you a cost, more than without the condition but not £700 more........... even for the USA.
I hope you have a great and safe trip
Lou
Have you tried a company called World First
