Hi everyone, I'm 39 and have just been diagnosed with pbc a few months back. I think I'm still very early stages based on my lfts and my fibroscan score was 4.4. I've had both an ultrasound on my liver plus an MRI and no damage is showing. I am currently on 750mg urso daily. I don't have any symptoms.
I have a little boy who is 2 and we would really like to add one more to our family. I'd love to hear some positive pregnancy stories from those who were diagnosed pre conception. I think I need a bit of hope! There is so much mixed info out there regarding pregnancy!

Just to add to this, I did get pregnant this summer, first month trying but unfortunately the pregnancy did not progress past 6 weeks. I miscarried at 9. I was under investigation for my liver at the time (since January) but wasn't diagnosed and wasn't being treated.
I’m not formally diagnosed but AMA positive since 8 years ago and I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old. I also had 2 losses before my 3 year old at 14 weeks and 6 weeks. With my 3 year old I did get obstetric cholestasis which is when the liver doesn’t do it’s job with the bile and it goes in to your blood stream so they put me on urso then but baby was fine and after I came off urso and LFT’s went back to normal! I’m 36 by the way.
HiI have two young children , I’m 39 yrs of age this year , PBC doesn’t affect you from having more children however pregnancy can take a troll on the body ( Liver) Personally if I have known that I had PBC I definitely Would Not have had children.
Especially the little ones requires alot of our energy .., fatigue comes with PBC
But i’m only speaking from my personal circumstance , your might be better 🙂
I had a baby about 2 years after being diagnosed with PBC. I was AMA positive but not on urso at the time. I had massively elevated LFTs but they felt that was due to a separate issue I have with my common bile duct. (The alk phos shoots up when preg in anycase because of the bone activity involved in growing a baby.) Anyways, to get back to the point, this was 16 years ago and have a perfectly healthy 15 year old boy!
I’ve had three children with PBC one of whom I lost at 35 weeks due to ICP. I’m sorry this isn’t exactly a positive story but I did want to mention that you should watch out for ICP as I had that with all three pregnancies and they said it was connected to the PBC. It can be lethal to your baby but for the vast majority it isn’t - especially when managed properly so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your bile acids during pregnancy
I'm so sorry for your loss 😞 it's good for me to be aware of these things, thank you for sharing! I actually have a friend who has recently given birth and she had ICP. She has nothing going on with her liver. Pregnancy can do strange things to the body can't it! I've also had responses on some pbc Facebook groups that their pregnancy post diagnosis was their best one, you never know what you are going to get so it's best to be prepared and knowledgeable!
