Does anyone know if omeprazole is safe to take.
Gerd: Does anyone know if omeprazole is safe... - PBC Foundation
Gerd
I have been taking omeprazole for several years. When I was diagnosed with PBC my Gastro Dr suggested I take it every other day or every couple days. She said it is better to not take it every day if possible. I hope this helps.
Take care
Lisa
I take lansorprazole which is basically the same and was prescribed because I’m on a clinical trial for pbc and have been for 2 years now so don’t think it a problem for the liver
Yes, to,the best of my knowledge it does not damage the liver. However, for other health reasons it's a good idea not to take it for a long stretch of time. I took it or years though, with no problems. Just came off of it the last few weeks now. My hiatal hernia has been repaired and that was the cause of my heartburn.

I am on it and haven't had a problem with it
I’m glad you asked that because I have acid reflux, had an endoscopy recently which showed gastritis. I was put put on Omaprozole for a month, but the symptoms have returned now that I’ve stopped taking it. Perhaps I should take it again. Xx
Hi
I'm sorry your symptoms have returned. My Dr sent me to consultant who said I needed a 24 hour monometry test as this shows how much acid is coming up.it showed I was making too much. I then had surgery called fundoplication. It certainly git rid of the acid!! Please take care of yourself Lynne
Post transplant, I was given lanzoprizole from day one, and it was only stopped once taking the steroids stopped!! Trust me, I was very protective over my new liver!!! Andy.
