Hello Kingsnorth,

I get them often at night. I’ve been trying to drink more water, hoping that would help but so far it hasn’t. I’m early stage 1 with no scarring.

Yes. Especially at night

Oh my, I was having them so bad at one point. Started in my foot & went into my calve. Almost made me sick a few times. Only thing I found to make the muscle release was to get my leg under pretty warm water. Haven’t had one in a while.

My legs are feeling really weak and im getting charlie horses and twitching in them as well l have mild scaring and slight fibrosis. Im now thinking that these new symptoms arnt related to pbc but something neurological.

kingsnorth...about a year & half ago, I was having them so bad, during a weeks time I didn’t sleep because of them. I was having 2 or 3 every night. I work, so not sleeping isn’t an option. I told my Dr I couldn’t bear it anymore. He tested my minerals to be sure not low. Then he tested thyroid. It was so high! So he took care of that & probably within a week, they stopped. At that time, seems that was the problem. Now, I have had one here & there but nothing like I had. I had gotten to where I didn’t want to go to bed because I knew what was ahead. And they always started between 11-12 when I was relaxed. Have all your minerals been tested?

Please let us know what your doctor says! Hopefully it is related to dehydration. I think we need to drink twice as much water as we think we do with this condition and the meds. Please keep us posted

I get muscle spasms fairly often. I don't really think it's related to the PBC although I don't know for sure. I actually think I get different kinds, if that makes any sense. I know that I have degenerative discs in my neck and lower back. I feel like that has a lot to do with my issues at night. I try to change my position, support my neck with a squishy pillow... that kind of thing. Those spasms are the worst. I get them in my thigh muscles and they are excruciating. I don't know which way to move to break the spasm. I go to a chiropractor and I think he keeps my spine aligned and that it helps. I also get spasms in my hands sometimes and I don't know if that's my neck or if it's a vitamin deficiency or both. Sometimes I get little twitches in my forearms. Then I think it's something I'm not getting. I drink more water (dehydration is the first thing listed when you look this up.) Then I eat bananas (potassium) and take a supplement of magnesium (don't overdo that - it will give you diarrhea) Just because your blood work says you're in the normal range doesn't necessarily mean that you personally are getting enough of what your body needs. One or a combination of the things I've mentioned will give me relief. I never know exactly which one worked!

I get them mostly in my ankles and calves but on odd occasions they have been in my thigh. I have had them for years with no warning, no set pattern and no idea what starts them off. They are very painful and cause unsightly facial contortions until they pass.

I find it has more of a tendency to happen during the week because I sit st my job. I get up & move around very often. Don’t think I was ever bothered on the weekend when I’ve been busy moving around I always massage my feet & toes before I lie down. Try putting your back against a wall & stretch those muscles. Sometimes that would help get rid of one.
