Bloating
Yes I do, looked it up and its called Ascites , something about fluid in the lining of the stomach and abdomen, , If you can find anynore on it Kieraferret I would be interested to find out, also anyone else knows anything about this , please get in touch , Stay well x
When I was diagnosed in 2010 it was the ascites that was the main symptom at the time. They drained off litres of fluid, lost 2 stone in weight over night, went back to have further drain and have controlled it ever since with water tablets (high strength). In 2010 I just kept getting bigger and bigger plus all the fluid had given me a cough as there was less room for the lungs to expand. I have to say though by the end of the day it isn't unusual for my waist line to have increased by 2 inches
Hi Jackie71, Thankyou for the reply, How did they drain the fluid off, and before you had this done was your abdomen tender, having to wear loose clothing etc, would love to get rid of it, and hopefully see where my waist used to be , best wishes Mylo2 x
They put a tube into the area where the fluid is, in my case it was pretty much throughout abdomen so tube went into my tummy and it just flowed out, think the first time was six or eight litres. So once done I was a lot more comfortable and then they had a second go about a month later and since then it has been controlled by water tablets. There was tenderness but I was a complete mess. Initially when the first tube was inserted they couldn't find the fluid so had an ultrasound and they couldn't understand why the fluid wasn't found as they could see it everywhere! So you should go to your GP and tell him that you have a swollen tummy that is getting bigger and he should get you an ultrasound which should tell you if the thickening waistline, and everywhere else, is fluid retention. But my blood flow is better now possibly due to the urso but I never want to go there again was a really frightening time.
Hi, I have a very swollen abdomen but I don't think it is ascites... I am in the early stages of PBC symptoms and my abdomen is soft, not hard. But it is very uncomfortable and annoying and putting clothes on is a pain. I don't know what it is bit I feel heavy and not normal. Not really painful just swollen, in the way and it doesn't seem to matter what I do. It usually gets better in the summer so I am hoping for that.
My gastro not concerned - but he is not concerned with much at all. As long as people are not dying they get to be happy about that is his attitude.
Go see your GP! If it's ascites you need treatment! Hope you'll find an answer and that you'll feel better!

Hi ,
yes I suffer with dreadful bloating this was put down to IBS, I began to worry about it being ascites but a recent visit to the gastro still puts this down to digestive issues.
She has referred me to a dietitian this time to work out what foods may be causing it. I have sjogrins as well and saliver starts the digestive process as i don't produce any now that's not helping matters either.
I read somewhere that if its musclular or digestive you can hold it in somewhat, but if it's ascities you can't not sure about the reliability of that though as I can't find the link to check it out if I find it again I will post it up. However a trip to the Gp will reassure you they can tell easily by examination if it's fluid.
I get bloated but it depends what I've eaten. I also suffered with ITS. but to be honest not so sure of this as since I've started taking urso I don't appear to suffer with it anymore. So no idea really. Or certainly not my symptoms of it
I visited a dietican recently and she gave me a list of foods that create gas and bloating, in other words are hard to digest. The list is basically same as FODMAP, which one can easily google...
As a vegetarian many of the said foodstuffs are hard for me to avoid completely and I was told to take additional digestive enzymes daily. The enzymes I was recommended to take are called "Norgasin" (in Finland) and are safe for the liver.
Hope you'll find a solution for the discomfort and will start feeling better soon!
