So many people on this site have this terrible itch( Puritis). It is very common . But some of us have no symptoms. Yet! They have meds a lot take to help with that. Tell your Doctor how you feel and read some of the other posts. Good luck.

Thank you Ruth

Hello Rocko1774.

Sounds like you have pruritis which is the itch that we can get with PBC. I have the itch, that is how I was diagnosed with PBC later 2010.

I did find after starting urso my itch seemed to worsen for awhile but I also suffered heartburn and a bit of bloating in the first few months taking urso so it could well be that you are experiencing a temporary side-effect or that you have developed the itch.

Itchi is random. I find I can reach to scratch or rub one area that feels itchy and then it starts up elsewhere. I describe the itch as someone brushing against nettles or being attacked by wasps!

You can have prescribed medications in an attempt to eradicate the itch or make it better but they appear to be hit and miss, work for some, others not. Also seems that with meds for itching, you start with colestryamine (or Questran brand name) and then progress up to other things if this isn't working. I at present refuse to take anything for the itch as it seems tolerable most nights as that is the only time when I really know I have it. Causes unbroken sleep most nights but on the whole apart from itching and also abnormal LFTs I am in pretty good nick (if I say so myself) due to PBC at present. I am now 50.
