Hi Susan, I was first diagnosed with an under active thyroid 15 years ago, then 5 years later with fybromialgia, then 2 years ago with PBC. I am from the UK, and get great comfort from the posts I read on this site and the PBC foundation, they all seem to know and understand so much more than my own GP.

Hi Susan , I was also diagnosed with underactive thyroid 20years ago . Then about a year ago ulcerative colitis , then AIH / PBC , it's seems if you have one autoimmume disorder then you are more likely to get another . I also find the posts great for finding information . Xx

Hi littlemo and thank you for your response. Have you had your cholesterol checked because PBC gives high numbers. My doctor put me on Crestor and brought it from 290 down to 154. Have your doctor check your sugar as well. My doctors here are so careful with me and hope yours as well. I am so happy to finally talk to people that have the same problems. Take care

Hi again no I dont have my cholesterol checked but remamber many yrs ago being told it was high but that is the norm in PBC suffers but my consultant told me it is usually the good cholesterol that is high therefore this would not be harmful to my health. However I do try to stick to a well balanced healthy diet to keep me healthy overall. I am in N.Ireland by the way where r u from?

Hi there, I was also told that this lousy disease causes high numbers but my doctor still insisted that I go on med for cholesterol . It did bring the numbers way down.

Hi Susan, you're not alone, I have PBC since 1998 and then diagnosed with hypothyroid 2003. My recent lab test shows that I have high cholesterol, my endocrinologist will seen this on this 3rd week of this month. Take care.

I also had very high cholesterol numbers but my doctor told me right from the beginning that PBC shows high numbers. My primary doctor still felt that I should be on cholesterol med. she put me on Crestor and it brought the numbers way down. Before the meds it was close to 300 with the meds it is 154. Huge difference.

I too have high Cholestoral but not treating it as the medication can skew the liver functioning test results so they want to monitor them closely and at some stage when they are happier with them they probably will prescribe Cholestoral med.

I agree but the doctors didn't see it that way. I was diagnosed in 94 and nobody mentioned med for the cholesterol but now they said it's a precaution for my heart.
