Hi Ivanhoe

The manufacturers of Cytacon tablets which is the licenced form of cyanocobalamin, unlike others which may be available, state as follows:- Sensitisation to cyanocobalamin is rare, but may present as an itching exanthema and exceptionally as anaphylactic shock.

Acneform and bullous eruptionshave been reported rarely.

Patients who have become sensitised to cyanocobalamin by injection are often able to tolerate cyanocobalamin by the oral route without trouble.

In general, I have normally run blood tests every 2 years or so, this year B12 showed up at 131. Using the Cytacon tablets at 100micrograms per day, Plus 4.85 milligrams of B1 + 2mg of B2 + 20mg of B3 and 2mg of B6 all taken twice daily in a tablet produced by Activis called, "Vitamin B Compound Strong Tablets", I was able to raise my levels from 131 to 478 in less than 8 weeks and feel much better for so doing.

The science behind this regarding the oral route with B12, which if successful, leads I feel to a more level retention patern, with no highs and lows, as with injections, is that B2 is stated as activating B6, whilst B6 is needed for the absorption of B12. I personally have also benefited from the B1 and B3 due to better digestion without G.I. problems or other medication, plus sore itchy eyelids and inflamation of the eye due to the start of cataracts. I have also seen benefits via the mucus membranes, which for me have been a trigger point for my Facial Migraine condition, plus a drop in my B.P., possibly due to the vascodilator effects of B3 and my osteoarthritis also seems to have seen an improvement.

Before you begin looking at taking B12 via the oral route, may I respectfully suggest that you talk to your G.P about running TTG - Intrinsic Factor and Parietal Cell Antibody tests, for without the Intrinsic Factor in particular, you are liable not to be able absorb the B12 via this route.

Hope this all help a little.

best regards
