This current article (link below) by our friend and my hero Bruce Wolffenbuttel, et al., brings up an interesting point about treatment of Autoimmune gastritis (AIG): most commonly, the lost stomach acid is not replaced.

Another interesting artical albeit I am fully aware of the lack of gastric acids. I have had both a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy which shows inflammation in a stretch of my colon up to my ileum ! Crohns disease is suspected and I now been waiting almost a year for a capsule swallow to fully diagnose.

Due to my having errosive gastritis my gp has prescribed me lansoprazole for 'many years' to help with gerd and reflux which has added to the problem. I have not read all of the artical yet but most certainly will do after my morning coffee. Thanks for posting

Fascinating, makes so much sense and offers a protocol for possible damage limitation. I've always been wary of trying HCL/betaine but I will now, plus more focused use of Vitamin C. Thanks for sharing WiscGuy.

I love these papers you share. This one is an easy-read narrative that seems to just describe my situation in so many ways. Also timely as I have a Drs appointment next week where I planned to talk about these very issues. Can’t thank you enough.

Hi WiscGuy

Brilliant and so relevant.

Before I stated taking Betaine and Pepsin before I eat I suffered dreadful stomach cramps, bloating and diorrhea. Now I take daily before every meal and I am symptom free. I was taking these before I spoke with a Functionsl Nutritionist and it was she who confined that I needed to continue with then and in fact to increase how may I took. I have now been able to reduce to 2x 345mg/10mg before each meal. Before any protein intake or I suffer!

Great post and thank you for sharing - you are a wealth of info!

Thats by far the most useful paper I have seen in years. The implications for so much of the bodies nutritional needs becomes clear now. I have taken Betain HCL for several years yet though it was just a marginal assistance with digestion - now I know better. Thank you.

I've just read the article most of which I struggled with so I've sent it to the printer and I'll do my home work. what I did glean from it was it's about reducing the risk of atropic gastritis and cancer. I already have neuro endocrine tumors and atropic gastritis. does this mean there is nothing I can take that will help. sorry if I sound dim I will read again the very informative document later thank you x

Very informative. The description of AIG, de acidification of the stomach, and its consequences is the most comprehensive I have read. The role of vitamin C is interesting too.

I will need to reread it a few times! Thank you

thanks for sharing that! I’m starting to wonder if maybe I have low stomach acid 🤔 will have to research more
