I 've been wanting to try the folic acid in a tablet, I currently take a multi / natural food multi that has 280 micrograms in a serving. I was told with the mthfr mutation I can't take folic acid. i've read until I don't want to read it anymore. it's such a controversy and I feel like I should be able to from some points that I have read. on 4 1/2 months now I inj 1/2 or .7 ml everyday and it has helped me this month. other 3 months I was on eod inj.
so with more frequent injections I was wondering if I need to up my folate intake. I want to eat more foods too but my stomach is still healing from the gastritis problems. I've tried the methylated folates and they made me have horrible anxiety.
any thoughts will be helpfull.
thank you,
Rosina

If you find folic acid does not suit you for whetever reason, it is reasonable to try methylfolate or folinic acid. Take what you need, if you need it.
No, more frequent injections have no relevance to your folate intake requirement.
well thank you. I have the C677T and A1298C but when I had looked them up it was like wow they make you feel like it's so horrible, then 280 should be good with the multi I have now, but also thats great news about the folic acid I may try it then like half the pill to see if my stomach is ok with it. thank you again.
As Technoid says, take what you need, if you need it. MTHFR variants are common and are not the only thing which may affect your folate requirements. I needed methylfolate and made huge improvements when I started it, but that doesn't mean everyone else will. I have other variants affecting folate processing which may explain why. If methylfolate is making you anxious you are probably getting more methyl groups than your body needs or can handle, so try folic. You may find magnesium helpful too.
