Can I inject SC even though box says IM and IV?

Hi, I've got some B12 ampoules (brand Methycobal by Eisai) that say they can be administered intramuscular or intravenous. Does anyone know if subcutaneous would be safe to try?

The ingredients are listed as mecobalamin 500mcg, and excipients D-mannitol 50mg and water for injection. (I think mecobalamin = methylcobalamin)

I really want to try SC since IM sometimes gives me muscle soreness. I am wondering why the package doesn't list SC as a method - maybe they can't guarantee it's as effective as IM/IV because they didn't do the studies. Or is there some reason why SC is unsafe with this formula??

I would be grateful for any advice!

SC is just as effective as I.M.Here in U.K. we get our extra B12 ampoules from online German pharmacies ( no prescription required ) On the German B 12 depot packet is written that the b12 can be administered by I.M . i.V and SUB CUT !

Both methods are equally effective!

It might be interesting for you to look at the U.S.A. site

Sub cut injection is described using methylcobalamin.

If it is saline and if the vial is 1ml then SC should be ok.

injections which use oils rather than saline and larger doses can sometimes cause some issues with tissues in the skin.

leaflets will generally reflect licencing arrangements in the country where they are marketed.

Yes, I use an insulin syringe which is much more comfortable than IM.
