Adrenal dysfunction

HelloI'm starting hydrocortisone treatment for adrenal dysfunction. Does anyone know if this will effect b12? Am I OK to continue with EOD injections?

I'm wondering now if my symptoms are due to adrenal issues and not b12. Although my b12 before supplements was 215. Maybe both treatments will finally help?

Thank you 😊

Hi,

Apparently no interaction between hydrocortisone and B12 have been found.

I were recently prescribed a short course of steriods for joint pain. Although I cant say I feel great in other respects they did help to reduce my chronic joint pain.

I hope the combination of the two gives you some relief. 🤞

Hi,

That's good to know, thanks! I'm glad that you had some relief from your joint pain.

Thank you, fingers crossed 🤞

As an FYI Addison’s (adrenal insufficiency) and B12 anemia or pernicious anemia are clinically known to be co-existing conditions. Do not underestimate the need to diagnose Addison’s vs “adrenal dysfunction” since you’ll need a medical bracelet indicating this. Lack of cortisol is deadly if you have a stressful event, surgery. Very treatable yet dangerous if minimized.

Hi, thank you. I haven't had the short synacthen test as my serum morning cortisol was not low enough to consider Addison's. I had a 4 point saliva test which showed low levels throughout the day - established stage 3 HPA axis dysfunction. Would this rule out Addison's? Thank you

Not necessarily. It could be a trend towards Addison’s. Looking at your age your fatigue/adrenal symptoms could also be due to peri menopause and related hormone fluctuations. If Addison’s you will have hypoglycemic episodes, tan skin in the winter, and other signs. All that said do not mess around with cortisol. Do not take corticosteroids unless absolutely necessary as they can shut down your own production.

Thank you. I dont even have tan skin in the summer, so that's a good sign! I've been in a surgical menopause for 6 years now. That definitely doesn't help anything and I agree has contributed to adrenal issues.

My doc has kept the dose, split throughout the day, to one that will not stop my natural production. I just hope it helps because I'd really like my life back! 🙏

Menopause robs you of "living" and I can attest to this (54). I opted for no HRT or BHRT and never had energy - lost 2 years of living. Just recently decided to give bioidentical hormones a try with mixed results: Bi-Est 2.5 daily and Prometrium 100 for 12 days per month. Need to give it a bit more time to draw a conclusion. Are you on any hormone replacement?

I hope it works for you. I know how difficult it can be to get balanced. I have oestrogen pellets but I'm probably going to switch back to gel or patches when that runs out. I use cyclogest progesterone and testogel. Testosterone is a big one for me in terms of energy levels. I dont think I'd be functioning at all if it wasn't for that.

I know that some people do better with a Progesterone like cyclogest or utrogestan if the prometrium doesn't help. It's very individual and can be a lot of trial and error with HRT, annoyingly!
